Just cleaning up a few things and seen this.   The Finest has Protectors and No-Protectors  You can tell the diff real easy.   I was just wondering if you removed the protective flim would the card become a no-protector?   I remember my son removing them back in late 90s.

No big deal just wondering.

I would say no because they were designed differently, enough to tell them apart, at least (such as a Refractor-like back in the '98 football set).

No, absolutely not. The No Protector cards...both base and Refractor...are printed on plastic and are Finest technology on both sides. 

After posting this I pulled my 98 Football cards I have the 4 types of the same player.  

The backs on the 2 with the coating are the same.

The 2 other are diff   the Refractor appears to be a noramly refractor   The no refractor / no coating appears more like a Chrome where the images of the player stands out more.

I should have looked harder before posting but maybe this will help someone out down the road
