And I'm sure the "Fuel Surcharge" that has been in place for all of these companies will be increasing. I know UPS had one in place for years before I left (which was 2016) that I doubt they ever dropped completely. I know our residential garbage/recycling company has maintained a Fuel Surcharge for years (which did go up ever-so-slightly this past 2-month billing cycle). I'm pretty sure next billing cycle, it will make a massive leap, they will apologize for it, but as a consumer who sees the gas/diesel prices around, I can understand their need to raise that.
As far as the USPS in concerned (and it's the same with FDX & UPS), people tend to focus on that less than 1% (and probably it's even less than 0.1%) of the problematic shipments. Of course, when you send 12 things in a yesr, and one of the problem shipments is yours, it hurts worse. But in the overall picture, it's a relatively small percentage of packages. I will say this however, I have noticed that the majority of the packages I have tracked within the last year or so have not made it to the destination in the original estimated time frame. Again, small sample size, but it's odd that so few that I track are hitting the USPS posted "due by" date. And that was both directions - ones I sent and ones receiving. Not complaining, not bashing. Curious as to what's causing that.
