Well, I haven't been on here as much as in the past. Too much life in my life -- good and bad. But fear not. I'm still an avid collector. But I was so busy, I literally forgot to buy the 2023 Topps Baseball set, which came out August 2. But now I have it. Although I haven't yet spent the hours I will spend going through every card, I have thoughts.
- I like the design. I like the close up, the funky logo, the overall look.
- Despite that, I can still barely tell one 2000s card from another. 1951 to about 1990, I can tell you what year at a glance. After that, they all blur.
- And I won't be able to give this set a good grade. Because Topps continues to eliminate the things that made the sets unique and cool. No more all-star cards. No more post season cards. No more all-time leaders. No more boyhood photos of the stars. Is it soooo bad to put an all-star shield on the card of the all-stars? Can we not have one measly card per post-season series? Do we really need 20 checklists? In the end, it's just the same stuff every year, and that makes me sad.
- Ok, back to going to through the set....
Happy collecting.
