     I know that this probably been raked over before but for the dumb one could you please amswer it again. When a card has a notation on it of 1 of (how ever many) is it considered as a (PR) or (SN)?  Thanks very much.

A serial number (SN) is when it is written or stamped on the card.  A print run (PR) is the number that were made even though it doesn't show anywhere on the card.

some cards may even have a number stamped showing something like  /10 . with nothing before the /

A print run can still be listed on a card.  In purtz5979's case, the card he is talking about could just be the print run, especially if similar cards also read 1 of whatever

Examples:

002/200, 1/1, 7/24 - These are Serial Numbers - The note field should have SN200, SN1, & SN24, respectively.

1 of 100 of this card printed, 1 of 1, Limited to 20,000 - These are on-card Print Run notations - The note field: PR100, PR1, & PR20000, respectively (please remember in the note field a comma separates values, so putting in PR20,000 actually gets read by the system as 2 entries - PR20 & 000).

There has been some discussion about SN1 and PR1 and what is the difference. Personally, I'm not a fan of the PR1 notation. If there's only one card, and it says on it 1 of 1 (vs. 1/1 stamping), I believe it's still SN1. But, others don't feel that way, and I think Admin is in that group - and it's Admin's site - so, we go with PR1 on those. :)

i think i agree and have annotated the notes with what i've been doing in line with what you said with exception to the "Limited Edition of"... (i think- not sure if i did or not)

for examplte

-card has on it "Limited Edition 100 of 2000"  (think i've have used SN100 because its labeled as 100 of something) and not PR.

the only other time i used the PR's are on cards stamped like " /5 ". i know beckett threw me for a loop on some , calling some cards a SN when there isn't a SN stamped on it. 

You've got it a little backwards there Tony.  The number after "PR" or "SN" is always the second number on the card.  Your particular card may be serial number 100 of the print run, but the note in the database entry is telling readers that the card is serial numbered (SN) of 2000.

To the OP question:

If the first number is different on each example of the card, then it is a serial number. (Example: A set has the note "SN5".  Each card in the set had five copies made, and each card has an individual number stamped or written on it; 1/5, 2/5, 3/5, 4/5, and 5/5.)

If the first number is the same on every example of the card, then it is a print run. (Example: A set has the note "PR5".  Each card in the set had five copies made, and each card has the same number stamped or written on it; 1 of 5.)

understood, i've been trying to go back and fixing i did long time ago, double checking things.. trying to get things more uniformed and conforming with everything else-- pain in the butt, but at least its kinda fun looking at all the different items out there ppl have
