I started selling on there recently. The amount I get each month is variable. Feb was pretty good. The fees are hefty for small sales totals, but I figure something is better than nothing and a few bucks is better than no bucks to help rebuild Lahaina. I've had interest mostly in new sets, inserts where I have the only one on there, and players who are hot. When Tommy DeVito started for the Giants, I sold all his cards within days.

Thanks for all the responses. From what it sounds like I don’t have the inventory or time to dedicate to be successful on Sportlots. I’ll look elsewhere to see what other sites I could potentially sell on.

I subscribed to this post shortly after the Q was posed, and also would like to thank everyone who replied. Seems I’m in the same boat. Not nearly enough inventory to be worthwhile.

What about BuySportsCards, that site that stole images from us? Is it similar to Sportlots? What are anyone's experience of selling on there?

Why not just try to sell the cards on THIS site? You are already here. I've sold thousands of cards on this site and most of them were commons. No fees from anyone and members here are (almost) happy to also pay shipping costs to get the cards they want. It's very easy to sell cards on here. My key to success has been to never put a price on any card. I always ask for an offer for the cards they want. When you do that, the collectors here will usually make a good offer instead of try to low-ball you. I've even told collectors that they offered way too much for something, but I'm a pretty honest person anyway. I don't even check values of cards on this or other sites these days. Having been collecting for over 35 years now, I have a general idea of the value of my cards without having to see what value other people put on them. If it looks good to me, I'll take it just to help out their collection while thinning out my FS/T. One last thing: I ONLY ship cards in bubble mailers with tracking #'s, NO PWE. Many collectors here are still willing to pay that extra cost to know they are getting the card they want with very little chance of it being damaged in shipping and being able to track it the whole time until it arrives in their mailbox.
-------------------------------
NO PWE's EVER!!! PLZ PM me 1st before sending any offer. ONLY selling cards as of March 2024. No trades or purchases right now. _______________________________________________________________________ Largest total PC card collections by Team, then Athlete (as of 3/22/24): STL Cardinals (MLB) - 8810; Carolina Panthers - 2888; GB Packers - 1790+ cards Mark Martin (NASCAR) - 2038 cards; Jimmie Johnson (NASCAR) - 1875 cards; Jeff Gordon (NASCAR) - 1594; Ricky Rudd (NASCAR) - 839; Ozzie Smith (MLB) - 707

I agree with Spaz. I have bought many cards on this site and have also sold some even though I don't promote my selling other than to local members. Best thing is that your paying of shipping costs are the actual shipping costs incurred, not jacked up rates to compensate a lower price for the cards. Nor do you have to share your sale $$ with anyone else. But keep in mind, there is a seller on here who only charges $0.10 for the cards he lists (though he lists at $0.00, the shipping charges equate to the 10 cents per card) and this includes cards that are valued higher on many sites. If you are looking to get the premium prices that are listed on other sites, you may not have a lot of success here neither. But if you wish to move cards you don't want, then try it on this site. Some of my best card purchases have been on this site including a recent 600+ card purchase off of the member referred to above.
If you list all of your cards that are for sale, other members can match their wants to what you have in one easy go. So much easier than doing internet site searches.

You guys make a good point, why not sell on here to this wonderful community as opposed to try and register on some random site. One reason I haven't done this before is a lot of members state that they don't buy on their profiles. spazmatastic, Thousands of cards with most of them being commons? That's great. I've made the occasional sale on here, but mostly of higher priced items or lots. This was primarily done through ebay. I assume for selling commons you use something like PayPal, right? I'm glad most people are willing to pay shipping on here, I'll offer PWE and BMWT. sandyrusty, I'll definitely try selling on here and see how it goes. Agree with your last statement.

For me, it was more about trying another option. I’ve sold on eBay since I got back in the hobby, but not enough to be able to list all of my commons. Sportlots doesn’t have limitations - for the obvious reason that you need to sell high volume to make it worthwhile.
In my time on this site I’ve gotten many offers from sellers, but I’ve never made an offer to a potential buyer. I’ve also only traded for cards, and never bought on the site. Part of me thinks that with my impulsive buying habits that might be for the best.

I used to try to just trade here at tcdb. Lately, I have been more likely to buy and sell (mostly buying) because I feel it is a quicker way to add what I want. I also find that those who look at the costs involved in selling through some of the sites mentioned above are willing to sell at a very fair price and offer PWE shipping on small purchases. I feel if more members realized this the buying and selling option could really grow here.

I have known 2 guys that sell there. Both had stores and sold most of their cards before shutting down. They both still have 100s of thousands of cards. Mostly the cheap ones. 80s 90s and into 00s commons.
1. Both put their accounts on Vacation until all of their cards were added. That way they did not have to be input and trying to ship at the same time.
2. Both had help with adding them and shipping for a while. One had a friend go in with him. The other give other guys cards for their work.
3. Both were overwhelmed when they take their accounts off of vacation for the first time and had to put it back on vacation to keep up.
4. When their inventory got low. One sold it to someone really cheap. The other one and his friend started buying really cheap collections and still doing it as of the last time I talked to him. (a year ago)
5. Both stated it was a lot of work for a little money, but it got rid of a lot of cards to people that wanted them.
As far as buying there I have put it off for a little while to see how the new changes turn out. I keep checking on how they are doing.
