My hockey card collection is about to go from 10,000 to over 150,000 thanks to someone getting out of the hobby. 🤩

Those with massive collections: any tips on organizing?

Would also love photos of how folks organize a large collection as well.

Sort by year, company, etc, pretty much in the same order as they are listed here on TCDB.

One by one. Have Fun. I once bought 100K hockey cards. It was fun but all I can say is anybody want to buy a bunch of hockey cards from the 90s? LOL

If you are going to sort them by sets. This is what I did why I acquired 100k cards

Step 1 cry ( the amount of sorting that takes place is a lot)

Step 2 sort by year since they are all one sport (if multiple sports then sort by sport then year)

Step 3 sort each year by set

Step 4 add to TCDB

Step 5 admire the craziness that took place over the last year plus

I seriously hope some of those boxes are already at least sorted by year! But yes, sort by year, then go back and sort by brand and card number for each year. At least they are all the same sport. Sorting a ton of multi-sport and non-sport cards mixed together is a very daunting task. I did it twice since 2018 and it took me until 2021 to get them all sorted, added here and merged into my own collection. And the merger of 3 collections only happened after I quit my job 3 years ago and took 4 months off from working. Those 4 months off didn't really seem like a vacation though since I was spending 8-10 hours a days dealing with the cards with maybe a 3-day weekend here and there when I needed a break from the cards. And the ones I acquired was only about 75,000 cards that I had to mix within my previous 50K or so. Good luck with the sort and merger!

I would be over the moon if I was in your shoes. I only collect hockey and would love for that to be a picture and situation I was sharing in the forums. Best of luck with the sorting and hope you find some gems
