I am confounded by sellers that are trying to beef up prices with far fetched claims. Had a seller claim a card was more valuable since it was a 9 off jersey #, and another insist that his SN cards are worth more than 1/1 printing plates (since they aren't cards and nobody wants them) and yet another claiming his SN10 cards were actually 1/1s because the patch was different on each SN10 I get that they are yours and you can ask whatever you want but it feels like the claims are getting bigger and bigger. What makes it more confounding is that the cards aren't of an upcoming star/prospect, but players who had short careers and didn't live up to the hype in the pros. Is anyone else noticing this "trend"? (of big fat claims? lol)

Yep. Example. I had been watching a set of the 93/94 Parkhurst Cherry's Playoff Heroes for awhile. It had been sitting there for a bit of time. I finally decided to pull the trigger, went to the site and found that the seller had boosted the price by 33%. Couldn't sell it at a lower price so screw it, raise the price, maybe I can sell it then. Needless to say, didn't get it. Still a hole in my collection.
But more to your point, yes, seen that cr** too much. the infamous eBay 1 of 1 where they utilize some of the logic you state to inflate prices. Anything to draw a sucker who hasn't been in the hobby long enough to know better. Disgusting.

They're not targeting educated, experienced collectors. They are targeting new folks buying into the 'fast flip investment profit' image.
Edit Jimetal beat me to the same message.

I had something similar, went to a website and clicked on a set I needed. Went to buy it and it went from $15 to $50. I inquired and seller said he had a bunch of interest in it so he raised the price....lol I clicked on it twice so he said he had 2 interested parties. Needless to say I found it elsewhere for $14 shipped and the best part was I was looking for the set for over 20 years (not actively, but 20 years nonetheless)

I don't know if there is *more*, because delusional sellers have always been out there and I am sure will continue to be.
I like the thing that existed, at least in basketball, for a while during the midst of the pandemic card hype spike where second year cards of players became a thing. It was explained to me that the logic was RCs were too expensive therefore the better "investment" was to pay less than a RC, but substantially more than a players other year cards to get second year cards and this was a gold mine!

I like the Topps Chrome Sapphire cards of the players I PC and when I see a seller have cards that sell for $5-$10 for $30-$50 it makes no sense.
I once bought a /25 orange sapphire for $5 free shipping once and I messaged a different seller if they would take $5 shipped for their /50 gold and they declined. Card has been sitting on eBay for over a year now. At some point these sellers need to learn the market right?!

I remind you of a seller who didn't like me comparing the same exact card's sale earlier in the week back in 2020:

There are likely a few scenarios behind some of the prices/claims on posts. A newbie seller not knowing all the ins and outs of what they're selling, experienced sellers trying to dupe newbie buyers or taking advantage of their newbie-ness, a new seller having had a newbie buyer overpay for a card may lead one to believe that $XX is the right price for that item in the future, or just plain ol' greed.

They're not "delusional sellers"; they're con artists.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

So , I've got the next step ready. Maybe I'll try it out.... saying that ALL serial numbered cards are actually 1/1s. Here's how that works- even a card that's numbered out of 500 is a 1 of 1, because, for example, if you have a card and it is 045/500 then it is the ONLY copy of that card that says 045/500 and therefore it is a 1/1!!!
