I do not sell a lot on Ebay, but I do buy...A LOT...and I used to leave feedback, as a buyer, before the seller left feedback for me...I have been left out in the cold on many occasions, and no I will not leave feedback of any kind until the buyer leaves feedback for me...As the buyer, the seller should leave feedback immediately upon payment...What else is he or she going to leave feedback on? The PayPal money didn't come through faster...? As the buyer, I won't leave feedback until I have received my item.I want to see what condition it is in compared to what the buyer said it was in, the packaging...Did the buyer take care to send the card or item in solid packaging? There are several items on my list that will sit there, without feedback, until I am left feedback...And that is too bad, because I want to leave positive feedback on all the items,a s they were all in the condition described, the shipment was reasonable and very fast and the packaging was solid as well...Oh well...sorry for w the rant...You can now go back to your regularly;y scheduled programming...

Whenever I sell I make sure to leave feedback soon as payment goes thru because I take pride in my feedback rating.... and it roast my cookies whenever the buyer doesn't leave any feedback for whatever reason... I'm sure I would be at least 100 points higher if all my buyers left feedback for me... but it is what it is.

I agree with both of you, I never leave feedback until the card is opened from packaging in the cave, plus I have had SO many North American sellers who could care less, but I'm probably at 95% for international sellers. Yup it is what it is.

As a seller, I tend to leave feedback after payment and before shipment.
As a buyer, feedback is left after I've inspected the item and before I put it away.

This is a hot button for me. I have tried to play it both ways and got burned by others in both cases. I have sent e-mails to people requesting that they leave feedback - got roasted on that. Some people suck. Sorry, but it's true. So I deceided that I won't be one of them. When I sell, as soon as I see the payment come through, I print the label and leave feedback. When I buy, as soon as I open the package and see that all is well, I leave feedback. If everyine did that, there would be no issues. If everyone waited for the other party to leave feedback first, no feedback would ever be left. I, without exaggeration, am probably a good 500 feedback points lower (could be closer to 1,000) because people just coiuldn't be bothered apparently. Since 90% of the shipments are trackable, they should put some sort of an auto feedback in place for the tracked packages. Package arrives, 48-72 hours pass, auto-feedback. Same with paying - 24 hours after PayPal received - auto-feedback. Otherwise, the feedback system becomes less valuable.

I've never sold anything on ebay, but I buy quite often. I can't stand when sellers wait until well after I left feedback for them. I can understand a seller waiting until I've received the item and am happy with it. I don't understand why it should take more than a couple of days for them to leave feedback for me after I left it for them. It seems to happen a lot more lately than it used too. I will give a seller about a week before I message them asking for feedback. Since I normally pay within minutes or a few hours of winning an auction, I usually get nearly instant feedback. I always leave feedback the same day I receive the item(s).
I've had to send more messages about receiving feedback in the past 5 months than I had to in the previous 5 years. I don't know why people are seemingly so lazy now!

A seller has only two feedback options; Postive or Report Buyer. A seller can no longer leave Negative feedback. I leave feedback as soon as ebay or PayPal tells me payment is cleared and "Ship Now". Unless I have a question, or make an additional offer to the buyer, and am awaiting an answer. I just recently offered an additional free card to two buyers. They never replied (go figure). So I shipped and then left feedback. Otherwise, my feedback is immediate.
As a buyer I won't leave feedback until I receive my items and the seller has already left me feedback. How can you leave honest feedback before receiving? Especially, "accurate item description" and "reasonable shipping charge". I just received two cards in a Card Saver in a PWE and was charged $2.80 shipping. That to me is unreasonable.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Maybe, slightly off topic but still deals with eBay.
I had a buyer buy a nice 15 item lot of Pocket Schedules for NY/NJ Teams. Sent them, mind you same state. In a few days get an opened case, OK not expensive items, so I shipped #2 shipment. Yesterday I get another case opened up, WHAT? So I wrote eBay, just principle, not money.....moral of the story, since this $.90 photo mailer was sent but couldn't be tracked either time, eBay refunded the buyer, deducted from my PayPal account, why? no proof I ever sent the orders. Well, somewhat "pissed off", I found that the buyer operates a Card/Collector Shop in the northern part of the state...How many orders more would I have to send to stock his shelves? Whattya think of that?!

When I sell on Ebay, I usually wait for feed back from seller before I leave feedback. How else would I know that the buyer is satisfied. But good feedback doesn't mean a thinkg. Several years back, I sold some Phillies items ($25 worth) to guy in Pennsy. He left me good feedback and raved about what I sent. So I left him good feedback. A month later, I get notices from Ebay and Paypal that the item was paid for by an "unauthorized" credit card. I think the jerk used his father's card. Well, Ebay said it was a Paypal problem and Paypal said it was an Ebay problem. Paypal said there was no proof I ever sent the itme so bills me for this guys credit card charges.....on my own item? With a penalty!!!. Since the guy gave me good feedback, I tossed the postal receipt. After many phone calls I got them to rescind the penalties and fees. Now I keep all mail receipts for a year, per their instructions. Just venting.

Sounds like ebay has deteriorated in its value as a place to find "hard to find items". Other than one purchase, I stopped using ebay about 10 years ago. Too common were outrageous shipping charges and more recently the added customs charges for international buyers. Ebay was going to charge me almost $30 for the purchase of a Nolan Ryan RC from the States. There is no duty on sports cards coming into Canada. I found one in Canada to avoid this charge. That was my last ebay purchase.
Feedback was always an issue as expressed by many here. Many sellers wait till the buyer posts his feedback so that he can retaliate should the buyer post neutral or negative feedback even when deserved. Considering that the seller is the one who completes his end of the transaction first, he should be forced to post feedback first. Ebay has no interest in this even if it might improve the site.
The last two posts are new ones to me. Just more reason not to use ebay. And thanks in large part to this site, I can enjoy my hobby without ebay.
Bob, did you ever take a drive up to visit the store who was ripping you off? A visit by you and a couple of friends might cause him to rethink his practices with other sellers. Or at least cause him to have to change his underwear.
