K, so as I watch the non sport section accumulate, I am starting to see more and more card games show up and I am beginning to wonder... Do they "count" as collectable?
Some of these NNO sets I am beginning to wonder if they came from a box... then I start to wonder, "Do we include card games like 'Cards against Humanity' now as well?
Maybe it shouldn't irritate me as I have been a culprit of many CCG cards in the database... and there was a time I would not include those in my collection as well. In my mind though, CCG's follow the rules. they come in packs of randomly assorted cards. There are inserts and cards that are more desirable than others. There are some sets that are showing up that I don't feel belong as I think they come complete as a "board" game....
This would also apply to Playing Card sets you can get for sports. If Cards Against Humaity can be included, I'm gonna scan in my 16 sets of nhl playing cards too...
Am I making sense?

Yeah I agree with your logic on this one. I wouldn't consider Cards Against Humanity a collectible card game, just a party game that makes my wife uncomfortable and made me realize how perverted my dad can be. That game was fun for a couple times and then I really got bored of the raunchiness- and I'm no prude. It went from over the top and funny to okay this is just getting juvenile and in bad taste, and also pretty racist.
Anyways, I think you hit the nail on the head with your definition of a CCG.

I don't think about it much, but I confess it does bother me a teensy bit, so I try to think about it even less. After reading your post, I did a quick search of the TCDB and ran into what are plainly just decks of playing cards. I have quite a few just plain old decks of playing cards -- with different castles, geysers, etc. They are all complete sets! Alas, they are not in mint condition, due to shuffling....I never considered these collectibles. But my wife traded playing cards with different backs with others when she was a kid. It was a collection. And some of the playing cards on this site were put here by members I respect.
So who am I to judge? Well, I AM a judge, but still. So playing cards count, game cards, all of it counts if it's a card one might collect, in my opinion. But I leave the actual rulings to the Administrator. And try not to let it bother me.

Yeah, they bother me. Especially, packs (box) of playing cards. "Hey, I'll trade you my Ace of Diamonds for your Queen of Clubs".

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

there is a bunch of sets showing up under the "Top Trumps" title That I mean to inquire about... they look like they come as a full game... not as individual packs... I don't think they count as trading cards...
Opinions?

Do the NHL sets just have team logos or do they have actual players on them? I can see putting full decks such as the "Herodecks" on here, but that random deck from the Golden Nugget or Tropicana, no. Also, decks that are just a team logo? No.
Note: I realize this is a very, very fine line we're walking here. I'm ok with that.
Edit: Oh, and I meant to add - Cards from games that always have the same cards and there are no charcters/people pictured on them are generally not considered collectible and I don't feel should be listed here. Otherwise, I'm scanning in all my old Trivial Pursuit cards! (And I have several of the other editions as well!)

If you can buy the set of 52 playing cards all with pictures of individual players on it and every set is the same........ then what do you have to trade?

They can be broken up into player collections, team collections, etc. I have some from those sets that I don't have the full set.

Playing devil's advocate here: I'm a few days away from buying a set of 700 cards with individual players on them. And every set is the same. Alas, I won't have cards to trade, but I'll have trading cards, nonetheless. (Uhoh. We're getting back into the accumulator vs. collector thread. Noooooo!!!!)
