I’ll top that with a research project article that I had to abandon because of lack of good information because I couldn’t find any sort of historical data on certain music venue clubs that held certain entertainment events a few decades earlier (i.e. what’s there now and lineage from then to now, is anyone there that could tell me about that long ago event). Hell, I even tried messaging a couple of the venue’s social media accounts, and one of them had no clue what I was asking about following a simple line of “When did this place get its current name, and was it anything since it was this name back in the mid 1990s” questioning.
Finally realized my best bet would be to go to the communities the venues were/are and comb through records and databases at their local libraries or county clerk offices. As well as go deep down various internet community rabbit holes to piece together any sort of history, and some of these venues were well known in their communities at the time. Because this was way too much work to do for a 1,000 or so word article, the time and effort putting in wasn’t worth what the eventual outcome would be.
In other words, yeah finding histories on building structures is one instance where Google is NOT your friend!

Billy, our neighbor's garage burned to the ground two or three weeks ago. If you would like to continue your experiment maybe you can see what you find. I live in Clayton, WI. I didn't try this myself but wanted to provide another data point.

I decided to do a little experiment. I know exactly when a fire occured, where it occured, and even that someone was killed in it. (My great-aunt). I could not find any reference to it online using any combination of her name, location or year. It was not a current event, (happened in the 1990s) but still, not a single reference. And it was covered in the newspaper at the time, as well. I did find out about a factory fire in 1918 that cost the lives of 7 firemen, but nothing related to my family event. I'm not sure that the lack of information about it on the internet is all that unusual.
