While pulling cards for a trade this morning, I came across a card that showed as my having it yet of the 3 cards I have of that particular one, I do not have the VAR asked for. When I look in the change log, I find that a VAR was added well after I had entered my cards into the database. My "listed" card stayed with the one first one that was originally entered even though it was actually the new VAR (of course no one but I would know this). This has now caused me to have to remove the card from the proposed trade and offer a replacement.
This raises the importance of those who find VAR or ERR and add them to a an existing set that they do the service for all members who show their collection as having the card, to send a message to those members advising them that a VAR or ERR has been added and that the card they have listed may not be the one that was shown.
I know vrooomed and a couple of other very diligent members already do this as a normal practice. I (and I am sure most members here) ask that everyone does this. If you want to help (and we appreciate everyone's help), help in the right way by helping the whole community, not just your personal collection.

Just to specify. I agree with alerting all members with the ERR/VAR etc card addition.
NOW how do you do that? Is there a way of mass messaging on TCDB? If so, never knew about it?

Maybe an automated system that notifies card holders of changes to Notes? Many cards are in hundreds of Collections. I'd hate to have to send hundreds of PMs, since we can't send multiple address messages.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

No doubt Dan can advise. I have received messages from him before on changes done to my cards. When I did it, the card holders were very few so PM were not overly burdensome.

Unfortunately, there is no way of mass messaging. The last time I added one, there were over 300 members with the original card in their collection. I sought Admin's assistance on that one, and Admin actually did some sort of mass e-mail.
Thankfully, most of the ones I have handled recently only affected a few members, so sending out 10-15 e-mails wasn't too bad. When I contacted people about that Jamie Quirk Stadium Clubm that was worse, because it was well over 100 e-mails. That's where a lot of copy / paste, browser hot keys, and my browser add-ins come into play. Working on IRs is truly a labor of love. You all should be thanking SDC, Corky, rmpaq5, stump417, & OCHawkeye (& a nameless one) for handling 95% of the IRs that Admin doesn't (and from what I can tell, we send about 5% - 10% Admin's way). There are others who help too, and don't get me wrong, every single one that is completed is very much appreciated, but looking through the resolved ones, it's mostly 6 names that I see.
Bruno, PM me which set it was. Maybe I can see if it makes sense to drop notes to people now. Thanks!

Just recently came across the same scenario. In a trade. Essentially I traded for a card I already had. Wishing there was a automatic notice sent to card holders to check their sets for these newly discovered errors.

So, What's the resolution? I guess contact Dan and let him figure it out? In the day of technical greatness, one would think there was a way to mass mail, PM, alert or something?? No?

Like I said previously, when *I* add stuff now, I will either alert everyone who has the card in their collection ("Hi, you have been identified as someone with cards from this set either in your collection, want list, or for sale/for trade list..." is how it wil start). That is, if there are about 80-100 or less members. Any amount higher than that, I can't handle. That is when I request Admin to send a mass mailing (and I will provide the text for him).
There was recently a 1970 Topps baseball card that a variation was discovered (a baseball in the cartoon on the back was either present or not). I consulted with Admin about even adding it, and the card that we had listed was in over 300 collections. I added the variant, Admin mass-mailed those who had the card listed in their collections. Since it was a card I didn't have listed, I didn't see the e-mail. He also did not send me the e-mail when he notified the 1991 Donruss colectors.

I have received a few messages from/through Dan regarding changes. They are much appreciated and I thought it was something that was done whenever a change was made.
Thanks for your efforts Dan.

As I'm going through my PC and verifying that I have the cards in hand that I have listed here in my PC. I have come upon several cards in the wrong sets. Also I have a to do list that I have find sets with errors in them (IMO) will be doing IRs for them later.
I'm lucky with my PC. It is narrow and do not have the amount of issues that I have seen people asking about. I really feel for a lot of you. I have enough problems with my PC.
Thanks to Dan I have received a few messages about cards that have changed sets.
