If cards are stamped XX/50, XXX/500, etc., wouldn't a note of PR50 or PR500 be more appropriate than SN50 or SN500? They don't actually have serial numbers and to me that stamp seems more like a print run. Thank you again, Panini.

If there is no number where the X's are, then yes that is a PR.

Could be neither IMO. XX/ is not necessarily indicative that any certain amount were made.

Neither are actual SN's. Companies always make extras for replacements. Those un-SN'd cards keep making it into the secondary market when a company shuts down.

If you are saying that they are literally printed with "XX/50" and you are not using the x's to denote the sries of numbers, then it is likely that neither SN nor PR apply, The "XX/50" is usually used on promo cards that have a much higher population, but they are showing what the serial numbering will be on the cards they are promoting.
The promos are not always more common though. Take for exampe the 1997 Pinnacle Totally Certified cards. This card is SN2999, but the Promo version is actually much scarcer. Since the actual population is not known precicely, it does not get a PR note.

That's a good point, Tom. I didn't think of that. I guess the issue now is that we need to know what specific cards UKb is talking about to get a better idea whether it should be SN, PR or neither. He did say Panini, so I'm guessing a more recent product.

This is the set that I was looking at, 2010 Donruss Elite National Convention. It probably would have helped to have included that in my original post.

"PR499" at best. But no telling if they actually limiited them to 499 copies.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.
