Hi guys,
New to the site, forgive me if this has already been asked. Is it possible to add photos to cards by entering a URL, or is it only by scanned photos? This would be a really great feature, especially if someone's already put the time into scanning those cards that might have missing photos on TCDB.
Thanks!

To my knowledge, all scans on the TCDB are scanned and that is the general rule. No copying photos from other sites. We want only original scanned card fronts and backs. Thanks for asking.

Welcome to the site.
For clarification, photos are never acceptable, only scanned card images. Using the term "photo" to refer to the scanned images will only lead to confusion. And no, you can not use a URL to upload images.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Hi guys,
Thanks for the quick replies. Is there any reason why there are no plans to use a URL? I definitely understand that #'d cards, etc would be unique, but if someone's already uploaded a scanned image for that card to TCDB, it's not like I'm uploading a unique image for my own card, I'm selecting that one anyway. Is there a real difference between doing that and using a URL of a card image on a different site?
Thanks. :)

My guess would be because we don't have the capability to do that. The site is set up for JPEG to create images of cards. You can always go into the "To Do" topic and suggest using URLs as well and why you would like to see it implemented. If enough users support the idea, it might happen and then again if enough say no then it won't. I could be wrong in making that suggestion. For all I know, it was already decided on by the members here to not allow URLs to create the images on the site.

Probably not allowed because 99.9% of images found on the web "as they are" do not meet the guidelines for image submission.

comc.com images do not meet our requirements...they're watermarked, rarely cropped, scanned in toploaders.

As an example, a random John Tavares card: https://img.comc.com/i/Hockey/2009-10/Upper-Deck-The-Cup---Limited-Logos-Autographs/LL-JT/John-Tavares.jpg?id=4aff3b7f-45b1-416e-bfcb-e94f77a7c2a6&size=zoom . It's a jpg, more than 250x350, less than 1 MB in size (56 KB), properly cropped/oriented, scanned. The pic does have a watermark, though.

Additionally, many of the cards on COMC are scanned crooked, also against our policy.
