I got this card when i purchased a collection many years ago. The card on the right is the normal card. The card on the left looks its missing ink/inks. I am not aware of any other versions of this card being out there. Seeing if anyone else knows whats going on here?

Looks to me like they missed the Magenta plate on the printing. They usually aren't extremely rare, especially from that era. May hold a slight price premium of a couple of bucks over the base card to the right collector.

It is sun fading, not printing error. Magenta isn't missing, it is yellow.

Definitely not sun fading. The card would be curled up if left in the sun. yellow seems to be in plentiful supply in the photo, that was why I'm guessing magenta is missing. Black is also there for sure. Could be the cyan, but I was never good with that sort of thing.

i did a quick search for sun faded cards and some examples that came up were of pokemon and yu gi oh. other older cards did come up as well. One common theme is that black ink is usually fine while red/yellow ink is usually faded badly. unless someone has more info, it really unfortunately looks like the previous owner had it on display where it could be hit with sunlight . i do hope you're right though griffey.

Looks more like a yellow proof for the card. I have several older Topps and Fleer color separation proof cards. They print several different colors, usually with either a complete or a gray (blank) back....look at my 1976 Topps football progressive proofs set to see the colors.

wow, thats different. I was going to take the card to work and check it out under a microscope to see if i can see any remnants of red ink/inks. How does/do those proofs make it to the public then?

You'll see LOTS of proofs on ebay (thats where I get mine). Topps Archives sold off a lot of stuff, some slabbed, most with Topps COAs. The Fleer ones were most likely being tossed but someone intervened and bought them all.

BTW, proofs are not listable here.
