"Crappy Windows Products" ?
Nearly every desktop/laptop I've ever had was running a Windows product. I'd much rather have a Windows product than an Apple product. BUT, I pick and choose the Windows OS that I use. My entire Windows history started with Win3.1 as a teenager, then I upgraded to Win95 about a year after it released. I eventually went to Win98 b/c I got a new computer but I didn't upgrade to Win2000 until well after they released the 2000ME (Millenium Edition). Then I got WinXP. I stuck with that through Vista and Win8 and all upgrades to those. I used XP for almost a decade and only upgraded b/c my laptop crashed so bad that it just wasn't worth it to me to keep fighting to keep a product that was no longer supported by the manufacturer OR my AV program. Since I had the money to get a new laptop, I bought one. I didn't have much of a choice but to get one with Win10 pre-installed. Since I got it, I've actually come to like the Win10 layout. I still don't use many of the features of Win10, but if I ever want/need to, I know they are there.
If it wasn't for laptop computers, I wouldn't use the internet anywhere close to the time I've spent online since I got WiFi. After I bought my first laptop computer in 2010, I bought a wireless router so that I could use it anywhere here without wires. It was an amazing day the 1st time I got to use my laptop to play music through it at my swimming pool without a CD player and without having to change discs to hear something from a different band/group/person. That had nothing to do with the internet or WiFi, but I was happy to have been able to copy some songs from CD 's onto my laptop and play them poolside. I would have never done the work to get my desktop PC to the pool just to play music! AND I was able to track the weather on my laptop to see if thunderstorms were approaching, thanks to the wireless connection. That's definitely something to keep an eye on during the summer months in NC in the middle of the day.
I rarely ever use my desktop computer (running WinME) except to play some old computer games. It's not even connected to the internet, but I don't need that connection to play the old games that I still love to play. The first games that come to mind are the original Command and Conquer series (especially Red Alert) and MotoRacer 1 & 2. When it comes to video games, I just like to live in the technological past. I have two console systems still in my possession. One is an original NES and the other is a PS2. I have 16 NES games still and a couple dozen PS1 and PS2 games each that I can play on my PS2. I gave my PS1 to a friend after I got the PS2 and his Sega Dreamcast crashed. I still play them more often than I play PC games. I still love all of the "Simpsons" games and the Madden NFL, NASCAR, WWE and Tony Hawk games for the PS1&2. For the NES, it's hard to beat games like Excitebike, TecmoBowl. BaseWars and Rad Racer!
