What's NOT to like about a day like that?
I guess I am spoiled with the fishing idea though. I have a pond a few hundred feet from my couch that I can fish in whenever I want. And my neighbor has a much bigger LAKE that I can use as long as it's catch-and-release.
My family also does birthdays on the weekend no matter when the actual day was. I made sure that no one was planning a surprise birthday for me on my b-day b/c I didn't want to be bothered with that. I had a plan and everyone knew it all the way back in January when myself, my brother and my sister threw a surprise b-day party for my Mom's 60th birthday. We got her good and she was completely shocked! Her birthday was on a Wednesday and we surprised her the Sunday before her birthday. She didn't expect it b/c her Mom's b-day is about a week later, and we usually celebrate both on the weekend between them. But I made it known right then that I didn't want a surprise party for my 40th. My nephew's b-day is 12 days after mine, but we had a party for him 2 weeks after mine. My Aunt's b-day is on August 8th, but we are getting together for hers this coming Sunday (the 5th) and my niece's b-day is the 19th. Since that is already a Sunday, she'll get a party on her birthday. The one-off birthday nearly every year is my brothers b-day. His falls close to Thanksgiving every year, so we usually celebrate his b-day on Thanksgiving Thursday. Last year, it was exactly the date and this year it is the day after Thanksgiving.
If you have paid days-off, I completely understand that reasoning though. We don't get those in my company. I work for a very small company, so we have no paid-leave days. If I don't work, someone else has to do it for me. That means they get the money instead of me.
