I hope that the Hurricanes have a backup Zamboni driver. It will be weird seeeing a goalie driving a Zamboni.

And David Ayers...Zamboni driver...gets the official NHL win and is one of the 3 Stars of the game. There is no other major sport league in the world I bet where a guy off the street can get into a game.

Someone on twitter said he was the oldest person to ever make his NHL debut (I worded that really bad, I'm not sure how to say it). The previous holder was about 100 days younger or so, and held the record since 1927.

So y'all are saying that the Hurricanes used Toronto's emergency goalie and beat the Maple Leafs with him. The Leads have as bad of luck as the Lions do.

It happens to a degree in international cricket rather regularly.
Often home teams emergency fielder will be a local club guy. So, not "off the street" but probably playing at a similar level to this guy.
Also, touring teams have pulled in some interesting emergency fielding options when illness hits the team (often in the sub-continent). Every few years you hear of teams having to field the masseuse, physio or sometimes even members of the touring commentary team to make up numbers!
