Lmao if each team name is just the name of the city they play in, Panini will be laughing. They've been all over that for years!

Still eons better than Spiders. To be honest though, I expected to be dissapointed, but I like Guardians. Not as good as my wish of "Commadores," but still good.

Hope Memorial Bridge in Cleveland
The Hope Memorial Bridge is a 5,865-foot-long art deco truss bridge crossing the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. The bridge connects Lorain Avenue on Cleveland's west side and Carnegie Avenue on the east side, terminating just short of Progressive Field.

Robert “It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it to buffer the passage of time, to keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive, and then just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops. Today, October 2, a Sunday of rain and broken branches and leaf-clogged drains and slick streets, it stopped and summer was gone.” ― A. Bartlett Giamatti robertkimble.us/tradingcards

Very dissapointing. I would have at least thought it would be somethin' retro like the Cleveland Spiders. PLUS, that name is already in use! It's a hockey team! Ridiculous.

Guardians sounds like a 12 year olds first venture into fantasy baseball.

The name is just dumb, dumb, dumb. I know they have to be PC and not offend anyone. But if they called them the porcupines, someone would complain.

I live in Florida, and I know there are some people here who don't like being called "Yankees."
Seriously though, I was talking to my dad about this the other day, and it's all about what you know. I'm 42, and to me, Los Angeles Lakers and Utah Jazz don't sound the slightest bit odd, even though those names basically make no sense. Yet, I still can't get used to the fact that there are NBA teams called the Oklahoma City Thunder and New Orleans Pelicans (roll right off the tongue, don't they?)
Like it or not, some babies are about to be born in Cleveland who will grow up die-hard Guardians fans, vaguely aware it was ever any different.

I bet you there are at least 15 MLB team names that, right now, if the name was just annouced, everyone would freak out just like this.
What the hell is a Met or an Astro? Where’s the intrigue in being named for a small, harmless bird? Why are there teams named after socks!?
The Guardians is actually a fine name, and it has local significance, so who cares.
