Could Nelson Cruz make the 500 HR club? Could Robinson Cano make the 3000 Hit club? I think the universal DH gives them more of a chance. Which seems more likely? Your thoughts? Any other possible baseball milestones you're tracking?

If I had to choose one it would be Cano, but I don't really see either of them making those milestones. Those guys are getting pretty old and still have a little too far to go in my opinion. I think Stanton and Trout have realistic chances for 500 HR. I don't see anyone getting 3,000 hits for a very long time.

At first I thought you were talking about having 3000 Cano cards but no :). I liked Cruz with Minnesota and was sad when he was traded. I think the only person getting to any of those any time soon is Trout to 500.

I don't think either of those 2 are reaching those milestones. For 3000 hits we probably have to wait another 10-12 years for the next player to reach it. Altuve and Freeman are the current closest real threats. Following them are Machado and Trout, who are about 2 years behind them (in age and career). For 500 HRs, Giancarlo Stanton could be there in 5-7 years and Trout in 6-8 years, if they stay healthy.

Those guys are just hanging on for a milestone. They are not even good players anymore. Add to that Pujols. The guys that are achieving great marks are Max Scherzer , Jacob Degrom and Madison Bumgarner. In terms of wins and ERA. Max is making history every time he takes the mound.

Pujols is playing out his contract though so him "hanging on" for "milestones" is basically irrelavant . Cruz is still a power threat and as long as someone is willing to give him a job he'd be foolish to say no if he still has the desire to play (TBH though he's not getting 500 without a monster year this year as he's still 50 shy) and no way in hell is Cano getting to 3K unless he starts hitting at a .4 clip this year and next year (the last 2 years on his contract)

Pujols contract was up last season. He's with the Cardinals again for a reunion/farewell tour with Yadi and Wainwright, and still hitting home runs (and closing games!!, well, game).

Generally, the condition I look for is: 1800s-1929 - G and up (1+)... 1930-1951 - VGEX and up (2.5+).. 1952-1967 - EX and up (5+)... 1968-1978 - EXMT and up (6.5+)... 1979-1994 - EXMT/NM and up (7.5+)... 1995-present - NM+ and up (8.5+)

Reunion or farewell tour. That sais it all. Max Scherzer is not on a fairwell tour he wants another championship. That is the difference. When you are awsome and can still contibute to a champioship it is different. These guys like Cabrera just want the numbers but greatness cannot be meaured. Max Scherzer is great and those other mentioned are not. Just on a farewell tour ? . Thx

Why are you comparing a pitcher to batters reaching milestones? Scherzer has NOTHING to do with the topic here! Lastly, are you saying that NOBODY else mentioned in this thread is great or just Cruz and Cano? If you mean nobody else, then you are completely wrong as all 3 of the current Cardinals players mentioned in this thread are FOR SURE Hall of Famers and probably on the first ballot for each of them!
IMO Cano and Cruz do not hit those numbers. They might get close, but I don't think they'll pass them.

Were it not for the PED suspensions, Cano would be on the cusp of 3000 now. Sadly I think he's going to fall short. Cruz is already 41 and might hang on long enough to hit his milestone, but I don't see it happening either.
