Hi There!
I collected cards as a kid back in the 70s & 80s before I discovered girls in high school. Anyway, I caught the bug a few years back and started to piece together sets from the past.
One of the recent sets I've pieced together is a full run of 7-Eleven Coins/Discs from the 80s through 2000. While filling in the holes, I came across a 4.5" Mickey Mantle disc. I'm running into conflicting details regarding this disc:
- A few eBay sellers have it listed as a 7-Eleven item - either from 1986 or 1987
- A few sellers list this as a Sportsflics item not associated with the 7-Eleven set runs
So which one is it??? I haven't been successful in filling in the details to this point. I recall the 1984-85 Wayne Gretzky 4.5" disc 7 - Eleven offered as a premium (send-in I believe). However, I'm drawing a blank on this one.
I've attached a picture of the disc in question; and specific details would be greatly appreciated.. Specifically:
- Was this disc in fact associated with the 7-Eleven sets?
- If so, which set run?
- If so, was it offered as a mail-in or premium of some sorts?
- If not, then which set run does it actually belog to?
Thanks!

I can't help you but thought a bump to the top might draw some attention. It does look similar to the 7/11 discs, but I think they usually had trademarks or copyrights on the outer edge so who knows.

I found a lot of sites calling it 1987 Sportflics 7-11 Slurpee disc. I'll agree with 7-11 part, it sure looks like a 7-11 disc.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

From what I remember, the large blank-backed disc were usually display pieces. (They would attach the disc to the large cardboard sign that would hang from the ceiling in the stores when the normal-sized discs were available under the cups.)

I have a Gooden, very similar. Mine came in a set which I do not remember the name. The backing fell off due to age, there is residue on it like it was a sticker I'm leaning toward sportflics for the obvious reason but would not bet on it. Definitely not a Slurpee

I remember getting advertising cards out of Sportsflics packs back in 86 and 87 with instructions on how to buy these. I'm pretty sure that's where this came from. It's way too big to be a slurpee coin.

Thanks to eveyone who's responded! I had one dealer who's very familiar with the 7-Eleven coin sets tell me that this disc isn't related to them & told me something similar to what cruff_daddy said. However, he wasn't clear on the specifics - which set it was associated with or how & you could attain it...
I've dug pretty deep into this site's database & haven't been able to find a reference to it. That said, I've started to rule it out as part of the 7-Eleven sets...

I received one of those discs a few months ago and believe I started a thread about it. When I get home in the morning I will check my records and see what I found out about mine, but if memory serves me correctly I do not believe it was in the database.
