1987 Sportflics Baseball Forum

Let's look at it this way.

Version A - (c) 1986
Version B - (c) 1987
Version C  - no (c)

According to all sources, every card came in Version A and every card had a second version - either B OR C. No such thing as a card having all three variants.

Can you please post images to the mystery card forum of all 3? Thanks.

  The 1987 copyright for Steve Carlton is the rare one. I never knew it existed. This whole set is a mess on here (with variations), the variations are all listed as 1986 copyright date, not  1986, then  1987, or no copyright as variations (scans are not correct either, a pile of work needs to be done). The correct variations can be found here (not including 1987 copyright Carlton):

The 1986 copyright is the standard for this issue, the 1987 copyrights and no copyrights are the variations and should be listed as such.

@bzjr68 - Thank you for posting these images. This is helpful. Your (c)1987 card for #200 is the only one I have seen for this card. This is a very strange situation and I'm not sure where it came from - if you have that info, it would be helpful.

I have sent out a message to a couple of the others who usually handle these kinds of changes. Since the set now has the dropdown list for "Master set" and the 2 variants (based on our prior knowledge), we will most likely be able to remove the lettering on the majority of the set. (The 4 versions of the Cory Snyder card and now the 3 versions of the Carlton will need to have the letters.) This should accommodate Mark345's complaint about the listing (but if you read the forum thread, you'll completely understand how it came to be the way it is).

Had the '86 since I was a teenager, bought the no copyright when they were listed here as Factory/Retail. The '87 was bought on E-bay....

Very interesting. I have dealt with him in the past. This set may need more work than originally thought. Thanks for the links!

Update: I have sent a request to Admin to make some serious updates to this set (including the Relkease Notes and the Trivia section) considering the information received from the IR and now the info seen in the available cards.

The next update will be after Admin has done what only he can do.

I joined TCDB in Nov. 2020 (that was to keep track of my collection), but I have been coming to this website for at least 10 years,before I joined. I have been buying and collecting cards for more than 53 years and I know this set VERY well. I actually pulled out my 1987 Sportflics Baseball and they were still in the original (wax (mylar)) box. Not a single card had a 1987 copyright or no copyright on them. Since I had only bought packs, I assumed that the variations were in Factory Sets (Incorrectly). VarietyKing is evidently correct in what he has in his Ebay posting of these variation. So every one (including Beckett) who thinks that the 1986 copyrights were Only include in Factory Sets are wrong.
