I had to raise a Spockian eyebrow over the comments in the article regarding BGS vs PSA grading, and how BGS are much more valuable because of there stricter grading standards. But I disgress....
I do buy multiples of certain John Olerud cards, but the instances are few. I also collect Topps base sets, and Blue Jays team sets, so from Olerud's days with the Jays I need to have three copies of certain cards for my collections. Also, a few of his memorabilia cards, such as https://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/12843/cid/2016744/2001-Fleer-Platinum---National-Patch-Time-NNO-John-Olerud and https://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/13001/cid/2025583/2001-SP-Game-Used-Edition---Authentic-Fabric-JO-John-Olerud- come with different colored swatches (white, grey, navy blue), which could also just be considered as collecting variations.
To me, there are enough different unique cards of my player to chase without worrying about amassing multiple copies of the same card. Even getting graded copies of cards I already have doesn't really interest me (though I do own a few).
