As I was adding a card to the 2017 Topps Rediscover Topps sets, I wanted to make sure I followed the same Note convention as in the original set. I was adding a MGR card and I thought it would also have the TC for Team Checklist in the Note field. When I looked at the 1988 set, I found that all of the MGR cards are also noted as CL along with the true set CL. Shouldn't the MGR cards not also be TC for Team Checklists?

I always associate the note TC with "Team Card."

I thought the same, TC is Team Card. A Team Card that is also a Checklist would get the Notes, "TC, CL".

"Team Checklist" is in the glossary as a definition of the note "TC".
I assume that a team checklist is a card that lists just the players from the subject team that are within a larger set that includes many teams, as opposed to the regular checklist that lists all of the cards sequentially.

I can see the confusion. Lea, you are correct in your assumption.
The TC, CL causes clutter when looking for just the 6 or 7 true CL of a set (I see that as a problem). TC has been used as Team Card for the cards that depict a team photo. Do we need a TCL (Team Checklist) acronym? Of course this would mean going through the Topps sets from 1957-1981 and making the cahnges.
I am only putting this out for discussion - don't vent on me.

I know this issue came up years ago. Will have to search the forums. Also, ask the "team" that put together the Glossary.
Here it is: https://www.tcdb.com/Forum.cfm/Page/S/ID/4926/?MODE=VIEW&ThreadID=7128#38023, see vrooomed's reply.

CL = Checklist
TC = Team Card
A team checklist that features the whole team = TC, CL
A team checklist that doesn't feature the whole team = CL
A Manager card that has the checklist on the back = MGR, CL
Above quoted from 2017. Below added today.
Instances where TC = "Team Checklist" should be changed to either TC, CL or simply CL.
I thought about asking if a separate definition for Team Checklist is needed, but then we could get into what do we do on team cards where the previous season's record is displayed? And a slew of other what ifs. I think that's why we defined CL to be used for any card that has a checklist on it, regardless of how much of the set, or which portion of the set.

One more thing to add to the mess...
"TP" has multiple definititions including "Top (something)" (Prospect, Player, Pick, etc.) and "Triple Print", but it looks like it's also being used for "Team Photo" (example here), so on any cards where a team photo is shown on the front (like the 60s/70s Topps cards) and they don't specifically say "Team Card" like the recent Topps, AND they aren't "Team Leaders" cards (which would get "TL" instead), do we agree those types of cards are "TC" for "Team Card"?

Yes, those are prime examples of Team Cards (TC). TP is used for something else, not Team Photo. :)
