Am I to understand that these inserts are nothing more than Topps taking original cards from junk wax sets and adding their own stamp to create parallels?
If so, my question is: why? Didn't we collect these already or have them stored away in sets?
If not, then please enlighten me. It seems there are now countless sets which will never be complete again due to this practice.

These were particularly aggravating as a player collector. There was no real rhyme or reason to the rarity/color of the foil "REDISCOVER TOPPS" stamp either, I believe there was Gold/Bronze (not sure if two different or just confused labeling), Silver and Red.
Of course there are many, many foil-stamped buyback sets like this, but the Rediscover one is probably the most pointless. Heritage has one for every year. Topps has done some others for the flagship brand and Bowman. Upper Deck did one in 2009 with the '89 set. I know there's been low-numbered ones for the early 90s Leaf sets too.

I generally find them annoying too, but I wouldn't worry about "countless sets which will never be complete again" because most of the inserted cards are from sets that are so massively overproduced everyone could have 50 of them. When Topps inserted unstamped buyback cards a couple times it was kind of a fun novelty, though!

Came from more than junk wax, went back into the 70s and 60s also. It's particularly aggrieving cause they took great looking cards from the 60s that can be used to build a set and ruined them with a stupid stamp.

If you get any of these from 78 topps baseball, I would trade for them (for a friend)

I was half-joking regarding completing sets (it is April 1st!), but Jim brought up a good point that vintage sets were broken up for no apparent reason.

Agreed, great point! I wish Topps had left those alone

Yep, not a fan of these. I have a handful of them, and I can't even be bothered to request adding them to the checklist on here. Their existance is just annoying lol.

buy back of 1966 Topps card, out of 2021 Topps Heritage, with a 60th anniversary stamp, is going to be a card of the day selection in a few.
