2016 Panini Honors Football Forum

I have the P-38 Raymond Berry of the 3000+ card series, signed and numbered 6/9. My question is...where did Panini get these cards? Were they leftovers when Donruss folded?  I would have thought that when Donruss initially issued the different Performers inserts in 2008 that they would have used up all their cards.

Printers in general, and trading card companies specifically, never print exacly the quantity of product needed for an order.  The extras are called the overrun.  Trading card companies retain some overrun cards to use when replacements are needed for damaged product.  When a company goes out of business, their library of overruns usually finds its way into the market through one channel or another.  In this case, Panini acquired the assets of Donruss, and used these vault cards as inserts in a new product.

Wow, I never thought of that.  Thank you for that insight.   I thought the OP was trying to say the same photos were used in the two different companies sets.  I would have never thought it was actually the entire card, just embossed with different company logo.
