Any ideas on what I am missing to distinguish the two ? I can't see (maybe it is my colour blindness I don't know, or I'm just missing something that should be evident) any difference in the scans. I can't see any difference in the scans on COMC either. Thanks

The base cards are thinner and the signature on front is black. The Gold parallel is much thicker and the signature on front is in gold. I don't know if it's 2002, but IIRC there's at least one Bowman set where the only difference is the "gold" print for the signature that is somewhat tough to differentiate. Every time I go through my collection for that set, I mix them up. Maddening! Thankfully, they seemed to have changed the border/background color to gold in future seasons.
