Any idea where the 10-count cello wrapped packs of 1992 Topps Gold were issued? These are not abundant but there are several examples available online for sale. I just can't figure out how they were distributed.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I have opened a few factory sets over the years (the blue box) and the ten golds were not sealed, just together among the base cards. It is certainly possible that some portion of the factory set run contains sealed packs like these.
Two sellers have told me that they received regular gold packs from Topps in exchange for the Match The Stats game cards they mailed in. I'd like to try to confirm if that is true.
EDIT:
These factory sets (not one of mine)

Jeez I forgot about the gold "winners" variants. I'm sure I have a few in some boxes that I haven't sifted through yet.

It was 32 years ago when I collected that set so I might be misremembering, but does anyone else remember at the start of the promotion before people figured out the light trick where they were sending back non-"Winner" versions? I have 21 non-Winners in my collection and I don't remember seeking these out while building the regular set.

If you matched the stats on 3 of the spots on the ‘Match the Stats’ game, you could scratch the prize box and send it into Topps for whatever prize you revealed. Most cases, it was a 10 card pack of ToppsGold cards. Like it was previously stated, early in the game, people figured out how to cheat, and the cards stamped ‘Winner’ were sent as prizes instead of non-stamped ones when Topps got way too many winning ‘Match the Stats’ cards sent in. I was 9 at the time, and won the game once. I don’t remember exactly when I won, but I’m pretty sure I received a pack without the ‘Winner’ stamp. Gold cards that were inserted in packs and complete sets do not have the winner stamp, and although it was 32 years ago and I don’t remember what kind of packaging my ‘winning’ gold cards came in, I would have to assume the packs that the op are referring to were just winning cards that somebody recieved for winning the Match the Stats game and they just never opened them.

This is very helpful and supports what I had suspected.
So the addition of 'winner' was a direct result of the onslaught of winning game cards mailed in. I wonder how long these non-winner packs were mailed out prior to the change over.
I appreciate you digging deep into the memory for this one!
