I haven't spoken up on this yet and since I like long form writing, THIS IS THE THREAD FOR ME! Before I continue I will admit I am an L8. Despite the funny thread a few months ago about having wild parties, all it really means is that as a member of the site I've worked on improving the site by working on different facets and the Admin has gave me more permission to work on more. To someone like me, it means that Admin has confidence in me that I won't screw up (at least too badly) and if I do, will be quick to correct it or ask for help to correct it. When I joined the site 7 1/2 years ago, things were different, not as many members and a lot less hostility. I don't blame the new members for that of course, I blame the world. I've become hostile with certain members on here as well but usually I try to see both sides of an argument or whatever is ruffling feathers because I'd rather come to this site to escape the World and hostility.
All that being said, I think I see where both "sides" are coming from in this thread. L8's demand that if you want to help the site out, do it as complete and accurate as possible without creating more work. Simple enough, I can agree with that. Newer members or those who haven't reached higher levels don't want to be called out when they try to contribute to the site. Also very simple, and something I can agree on.
Trying to keep this short and simple, L8's want the same thing everyone else wants, to get the most out of the site without cleaning up. Those not at L8's don't want to be called out whenever they make a mistake. Airing grievences is sometimes good but at what cost? Losing potential new members or long standing members will hurt the site more than anything, Let's hope nobody else leaves the site, and we can work together to make this a better site. HOW? If you want to help the site go to the bottom of the page and look at THINGS TO DO. You'll find many things you can do to help the site, find something you're comfortable at and start there. As you get better and more confident at the nuances of the site maybe find something else to work on. If you make a mistake be quick to correct it, or ask for help in correcting it. My favorite things to do are Team Validation and Missing Teams. New things to do are added all the time, so helping out any way you can is greatly appreciated.
Thank you Jenny for trying to steer this tread back into a learning one and hopefully it descalates the tension. Jimetal7212 I think answered your question on how it would be easier, but I will add this, checklists from other sites are mostly not formatted the same as this site, so while you can copy from another site, its more than just copy and paste and add to the site. When I work on things outside of cards, sometimes I find it easier to start from scratch again instead of building what I have done so far (advanced online Sukoku frustrates me, but I'd rather start over then removes all the potentially wrong numbers).
While I don't like the hostility of this thread, I do enjoy ones that people can learn something. I hope people learned something from this one.
