First and foremost, if Topps had made a silver parallel, they wouldn't call it Topps Gold. Possible explanation:
The gold foil sheeting was upside-down. The roll of foiling was installed incorrectly and the back of the foil ended up on the card. Foiling uses a hot stamping process. The foil is anodized gilded paper, the gold gilding is only on one side of the paper.

If that is the case, I would think there'd be more out there. I mean one card from even just one sheet mis-foiled can't be the only one to survive or make it into the market. I've never seen another one like that.

While I agree that misplaced foil roll is a possibility; I accept the fact that the odds of this making it to market and being the only one are extremely long. After all a sheet contains 132 cards. For only one card to survive and not be discovered till now. I mean there had to be at least 10 or 11 more with this issue depending on which direction they were running the foil roll. I doubt it would have been the full sheet.
I was just reading something about the main printing plant and it mentioned that employees were allowed to purchase sets at a discounted rate. Maybe they printed a special silver set for employees or maybe a test set.
I definately want to hear more

I posted this pic in another group. Someone pointed out the browning on the edges and thought maybe the card had been exposed to a lot of light and or heat. Maybe it was in a glass case at an outdoor flea market for a while?

I would like to point out that most cards don't make it to "market" or ebay. Most are jammed in a box somewhere if they haven't been tossed already. If the error was caught quickly by Topps, there might only be a few out there.

I have noticed that a good portion of my 93 Topps Gold cards have bronze colored stamping. Haven't seen a silver one, I would consider that to be a printing error.

Someone else also suggested "end of roll". If the end of the foil roll has no gilding then only a few cards on a sheet would look like this. And the rest of the sheet would be missing the foiling as the roll runs out. We've seen plenty of missing foil cards.

I have seen missing foil ones. I still have one from '92 without the foil and I used to have a '93 missing the foil.

I somehow acquired a complete series 1 set of gold cards for this set. The funny thing is that each DPK card, including Jeter, are missing all gold foil stamping. I was lead to believe that it was just a printing issue and thus not a premium.
