Does anybody know anything about this set? I bought this card today at a show and the dealer I got it from I buy a number of cards from him. He had the card at $60, but put a new price of $2 and a ? of is it real. I have my scanner set at 2.5 by 3.5 inches so the black area is just open air.
I got a feeling I am not going to like the answer, but what is anyones opinion of real or fake?

I really WANT to say this is legit. But I can't be sure from scans. I don't see anything that blatantly says NO. If I was holdng that card in my hands, I'd have a better answer. I can't wait to hear what other members think about this card though.

Paper on back seems to have white under top layer. Aged reprints are rampant on eBay

As I said I trust this dealer as far as purposely selling fakes. He has just given me sets of cards in the past, because I always try to buy something from him at each show. He had the ?REAL? sticker on the card and dropped the price.

I agree about the scanner part. Don't you ever clean the glass?
Seriously though, you get much cleaner scans when the glass is clean too. Pun completely intended!

I got a new scanner / printer a few weeks ago. Just been lazy on hooking it up.

Good to know. If that scanner couldn't be cleaned better, it's time to replace it. I replaced mine a couple of years ago. The scratches in the glass couldn't be fixed and the ink was getting harder to find and therefore more expensive.
How hard can it be to hook it up though? My newest one was a plug into the wall and a Wi-Fi link to my laptop.

Based upon the scan, it appears that there are pixelation around the chest, hands and pants. That was created by a modern printer, not what was used in the 1930s. The colors should appear creamy and smooth. The white stippling around the right side also appears intentional in pattern. This was probably done done with a pencil eraser, some of the circles are almost perfectly round, and was probably from an attempt to make it look aged, but in fact actually added to it being questionable.
I have quite a few cards from the early to mid-1930s from National Chicle and Goudey, which used the same printing techniques. Sorry, but this is a definite fake.
