Necrobump.
Was wondering about these plates that are listed in here (as front/back) on this set but not the other sets. To my knowledge, Pacific plates did not exist in the secondary market until after Pacific's inventory auction was held when they went out of business. After that auction was when all of the plates from their previous release and the un-numbered and "proof" versions of parallels became available to the public.
I remember when the auction happened and when the cards first hit ebay. I even had gotten ahold of some of the "first wave" lots which were all un-numbered parallels. It was at that same time the plates had started to show up, various front and back plates for various players. Even for "bums" (aka common, no value players). One of the old sellers from back then ended up changing names over the years and is still active to this day in selling plates... although now they have moved beyond the Pacific items to having 1992-3 Pro Set football, Edge football, 93 Classic Draft to more recently having Conlon and Ted Williams plates.
None of the Pacific plates I have seen (after auction to today, including the more recent ones posted above) are "colored" like the plates you'd see in a retail product like Upper Deck or Topps. They are all the same color (a blue/gray) and nothing on the back. I'd have to check the ones I have but I believe that none are reverse image.
It is my opinion that any of these plates are to be considered back-doored products. The same as un-numbered parallels or proofs. Whether you want to track them on this database is up to you guys. If you do want to track them, I can post which other plates I have so that checklists can be built.
Personally, while I do keep my "back door items" in my PC with everything else, I know where they came from and have no expectations for them to be added onto this site.
