Any hockey collector's know the difference between hobby and retail from this set? There is no scan of a retail card yet, and I get the feeling the difference isn't totally recognizable in a picture. I really hate retail/hobby versions of base cards - makes no sense at all to me.
Thanks for any help,
Aaron

Sorry I don't know the answer but I too hate the Hobby vs retail sets. The differences are either way too sublte to please me or they have a completely different front picture.
At first glance it looks like the only "real" difference is gold foil lettering vs silver foil lettering (retail) on the front. backs look alike. Not sure if there is a difference in backs. I wonder if there is a difference in card stock? Sometimes that is also a factor with retail generally being like standard thickness and hobby being slightly thicker and more rigid.

I am 99.999999999% positive we have the Yzerman versions. I may have a couple of the Flyers. However, they are at home and I am not. When I return home tonight, I will check and get back to you.

Yeah, it usually is a subtle difference. I sometimes get sent a "retail" version sent to me that looks like the hobby version that I THOUGHT I had. I imagine it's a difference in foil color, but not having seen both side by side, I can't tell. Vrooomed if you find you have both, let me know what you can tell between the two.
Thanks again!

Base cards are refractors, no SN
Hobby is Copper and is SN99.
Retail is Red and SN299.
I really need to scan and upload the Yzerman binders - but we have six 3" binders full. It's BIG project.

The RED was a retail-only parallel /299
BLUE /Jersey Number, GOLD /99, PREMIERE DATE /185
Don't see a copper for that year though.

That's what I had listed in my database which I compiled on the fly as the stuff was released, so I must've gone with what Pacific called the stuff back in the day. I'll try to get some scans up one of these days. :)

Veteran base cards #1-100 have no difference. The only difference was for the SP's #101-150. The hobby version SP's are SN99, while the retail SP's are SN199. And there was the previously mentioned Red parallel.

Does that mean the retail parallel checklist should have cards # 1-100 dropped since there is no difference? I'm wondering if someone just copied and pasted all the checklists for the parallels and assumed they were a full set.

I do believe so (to each sentence). It's clearly also listed the same way on "another" site and any scans of the first 100 cards are exactly the same as the main set. The description there also mentions no difference for the veteran cards.
EDIT: The Red parallel is correct though.
