I have been adding MLB affiliates to minor league baseball sets. The 1986 Procards Burlington Expos shows an affiliation with the Montreal Expos. Easy, right? However some players are shown in an Expos uniform and some in Royals uniform. All players have the "B" on their caps. Can anyone help explain this. Were the affiliations changing that year maybe.

The players pictured in the Royals uniforms played for Royals minor league teams in 1985.

1986 was the first year for the Burlington Expos. The previous year the Burlington franchise were the Rangers. So, when they were producing the cards they had no photos of Burlington Expos players. The generic "B" hats were either photoshopped or possibly worn for a special photoshoot.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

What's wrong with the listing?

Since 1986 was the first year for the Burlington Expos, all the players in the set were with another team in 1985. Looks like either a different Expos affilliate or a Royals affilliate.

I let Admin know that the team listing showed both the Montreal Expos and Kansas City Royals as MLB affiliates. I can find no confirmation that Kansas City was affiliated with Burlington in 1986. I asked them to check and see if the Royals should be deleted from being an affiliate

Found the answer here. In 1986 the Kansas City Royals assigned 10 players to the Burlington Expos team. So the team actually had 10 players that were affilliated with the KC Royals. The team itself and rest of the team players were affilliated with the Montreal Expos.

This would happen again in the mid- to late-90s with my local team here - the Hudson Valley Renegades. They started out as a Texas Rangers affiliate and when the Devil Rays were coming into existence, they started with minor league teams before they had the major league team. They didn't have enough players to fill a class A short season team the first 2 years, so they shared the HVR with the Rangers. So, two years of the MiLB card sets should have both MLB affiliates. The Rangers then pulled out completely, and the team was turned completely over to Tampa.
