i see we have a checklist for this set, but the card i just purchased has a different back (from looking at the gallery it appears that there are multiple backs for each front that make up different photo puzzles of players from that era). is the site standard to only list one card (i.e. one front and one back) or should all of the different front and back combinations be listed? In addition the checklist has card numbers listed, but i think this is really a NNO set as the only reference is a puzzle number and card reference on the back (i.e. the card i have lists Picture 8 Card C, the back of the card in the TCDB checklist has Picture 9 Card C and the checklist lists this as card 18 which probably came from the card numbering of ACC etc)

There are nine different puzzle photos. Each is comprised of 12 cards. So there are 72 cards required to complete all the photo puzzles. And the set has 36 players cards (fronts). There are 114 front/back combos in the master set. Cardboard Connection has the Master set checklist (sort of) but it would require some deciphering. For instance, the Adams/Bottomley/Comorosky/Piet card has four different puzzle backs. And then getting the checklist updated would require some work from Admin. And as you say, the player cards (fronts) are NNO. The backs have a puzzle picture number and a puzzle piece letter for that picture.
I think Admin should decide how to handle the checklist for this one.
Here's one of the completed picture puzzles:

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

The checklist for this set should include all 114 combinations because people collect the puzzlebacks too. There are multiple ways to complete the puzzle, and it takes more than 36 cards to do it. Beckett has done a great job of outlining this checklist.
The reprint set doesn't include have the various front/back combinations because 2 of the puzzle backs were not included, so that checklist is fine

Little confused. There are only 12 cards needed to complete each picture, not 36.

Thanks for the update on this set. I have always overlooked it because the 33 and 34 set are so dominant, but now that i have my first card i just wanted to see what the "complete" set encompassed.

Actually, a majority of the puzzles only need 6 cards to complete.
- 1 Detroit Tigers Team = 12 cards
- 2 Chuck Klein = 6 cards
- 3 Frankie Frisch = 6 cards
- 4 Mickey Cochrane = 6 cards
- 5 Joe Cronin = 6 cards
- 6 Jimmie Foxx = 6 cards
- 7 Al Simmons = 6 cards
- 8 Cleveland Indians Team = 12 cards
- 9 Washington Senators Team = 12 cards
I'm not sure where the confusion was, except for my forgetting to pluralize puzzles. It would take 72 cards to complete all of the puzzles. There are only 36 card fronts. Since people also collected the puzzles (hence the set's nickname "puzzlebacks"), I'm stating that the checklist on this site should include all 114 front/back combinations just like the two major price guides. There is no telling which combinations people will choose to complete all 9 puzzles, and the 36 card fronts in the set isn't enough to do it.
I also went back and rechecked my reprint set. It's actually missing 4 puzzles. The 36 cards include one 12-card puzzle and four 6-card puzzles. The reprint set did not include any back variations to my knowledge. I considered jumping into my '35G vintage collection by going after the four missing puzzles.

Totally agree. That's what I said in my first post we need to update to 114 cards. But it will take Admin's help to add the 78 missing variations. Including their concurrence on how to list them.

I just sent the request to admin. I'm not sure how they'd do it--either delete existing checklist to allow someone else to input new one, or adjust it themselves? Also, if admin is going to update it themselves, then how do we get the checklist information to them if they don't already have it themselves?

I notified them also. And to read this forum thread.
They won't delete it if there are any cards in Collections. Once Admin decides how they want to set up the checklist we can go from there. I was thinking NNO since the 4-in-1 fronts have no number. And a Note to ID the different back variations. Maybe P1A (Picture 1 Card A), P2B (Picture 2 Card B), P3C (Picture 3 Card C), etc.
I found the 114 master set checklist on Cardboard Connection. It's set up by the picture puzzle backs. I couldn't find it on Beckett.

The Beckett Almanac numbers the set #1-36 alphabetically using the top-left player's last name. Then it hyphenates each card number using the puzzle piece number/letter identifier.
For example, Berry/Burke/Kress/Vance is the 1st card in the set alphabetically. It has 3 different back variations: #1-2C, #1-4C, #1-7C.
Continuing on: #2-8C, #2-9C, #3-8D, #3-9D, #4-1D, #4-2D, #4-6D, #4-7D, #5-2A, #5-4A, #5-7A, etc.
This set can certainly be confusing to track without a numbering system that identifies both the card front and card back for each variation.
