1987 Hygrade All-Time Greats Baseball Forum

Anyone know where this one came from?  The only card in my son's collection without attribution to a company/brand.  Cool story on the back though.  Have to wonder if Goudey did this on porpoise.  Love these sorts of mysteries.  Keep trying to get in my son's mind -- how did you get this one?  Wish I could ask him for his backstory on this one.

I wish I could ask my son how / when / why he got just this one card.  Some things will have to wait until we meet again.

That card usually came in a collecting kit, and was almost always in the company of Honus Wagner, Sherry Magee and Eddie Plank tobacco card reprints.  They were also often in the presence of some of these: 1987 Hygrade All-Time Greats - Promos (Red Backs) Baseball Checklist | Trading Card Database (tcdb.com) and a smattering of these: 1987 TCMA Collectors Kits Reprints Baseball - Trading Card Database (tcdb.com)

I remember back in the 80’s Walmart sold starter collections came with a binder, several packs unopened and about 100 loose cards and these cards were in those starter collections. 

I just traded away the last one of these I had, which was the red/$10,000 back version.
