So I decided to expand beyond Topps base sets and my few T205s. Something different, cheap, and current. After poking around, I settled on Gypsy Queen. And I'm pretty happy about it. They aren't reprints. Reprints bug me. I don't want a new version of an old card. I want the old card. And they aren't throwbacks. I don't want Mike Trout on a 1965 design. I want a new design. Or a 1965 card. GQ are new designs. Every year. The most unusual, creative ever? No. But new. And generally I want stats. But since these are just augmenting my Topps base sets, it's ok to have an unknown piece of trivia on the back. And they're classy and subtle. No exclamation points. Just mildly interesting facts. And the artist renditions instead of pictures are a nice change, too. I'm surprised that the almost random selection of players doesn't bother me either. Again, because I have the base set. It's sort of stupid, but I love the mix of HOFers and retired players, too. And at twenty bucks for 300 cards (delivered!) on eBay, the price is certainly right. Yeah. Somewhat to my own shock, I approve.

?Anybody have large lots of Gypsy Queen for trade????
Always collecting,,,,, ~BOB~

I'm sorry V3, but I'm confused. How are Gypsy Queen not a throwback or not a redesign? Topps stole them from Goodwin & Co.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Yeah, I know. I'm cheating. But they at least redesign the cards slightly each year with someone a bit new, rather than exactly duplicate a prior design. So, yes, they are a throwback, but they're not just putting new players in the exact design used in the past. Like today's COTD, it's an EXACT duplicate of the 1965s, front and back. The only change is the player's name and the team name, because the team didn't exist. The one year of original Gypsy Queens had nothing on the back. And if that distinction isn't convincing, I will invoke my completely random 100 year rule to justify liking these cards. Any company is allowed to reuse or slightly alter a card design from 100 years ago or more.
So there.

lol...thanks, clears it up. I don't have a random rule...I just dislike all unoriginal card designs. But Gypsy Queen was produced more than once but I only see the 1887 set in the database.

Of course, you're right, Cigars. I'll stick with my 100 year rule.
Yes, Bobz! I couldn't figure it out, either. Except in the Mystery Card forum. There, it's easy to upload a scan.

The image has to be stored in a linkable location. This website has to be able to create a link to the image's location. Such as, Flickr, Photobucket, a web site, etc. I don't have a Flickr, Photobucket, etc account, so I upload (store) my images to a separate Facebook account I have just for TCDB. In Facebook I view the image, right click on the image, choose "Copy Image" (now it's in the Clipboard). I go to the forum post and press "Ctrl + V" to paste it in the post. Once the image is in the post, double-click on the image to open the Image Properties box. There you can adjust the size. I usually adjust the width to no more than 500. Just make sure the image Ratio is locked (the little padlock).

Wow. Thanks. I am almost positive I will never do that. Then again, I was almost positive I'd never buy any throwback cards.

I've only been back into this hobby less than a year (mostly due to finding this site and it giving me somthing to do with these cards I've luggin around for decades) but i have a few that I like for various reasons. My favorite are the '65 Topps simply because I inherited my dads childhood collection of these from my grandmother in the early 80's -I think i was maybe 9 at the time.
So.. Im partial to the Heritage set that resemble the '65 design. I really like the chrome cards, even the Metal Universe cards look kind of cool. But off all the new sets Ive seen this past year the looks of the Allen & Ginter are the coolest. I like the graphic/photo on the front. I like the Fonts they use. I like the simple backs. I even like this silly "Wife Carrying Championship' card.
If I were going to invest in more baseball cards it would probably be these. But for now, Im stuck on the Panini Contenders football cards.
Glad you found another set you liked! Good luck with finds and hope you have fun with it!
