The above card shows one of the helmet types Ted Green wore after he came back from a fractured skull. I can't tell if it's different from what was worn back then (few players had helmets in 1971-72) Getty Images also show him wearing a padded "halo" in the NHL and WHA, where the top was open except for white straps ... example: ******** Not sure if you have this one ... it's distinctive for having a contrasting horizontal stripe ... Mike Foligno and Mel Bridgman were two other guys who wore it:
Thanks for the tips! Ya the Dale McCourt (Northland) will be added, the getty picture won't be but I have seen that style of helmet a long, long time ago when my dad used to play in a Sunday morning men's league, and the first Ted Green helmet looks alot like the Stan Mikita special but I am not 100% sure either.
Billy Harris and his "leather" helmet ... I thought it might be a duplicate of Butch Goring's lid, but they're definitely different: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/4845/cid/1181401/1977-78-O-Pee-Chee-126-Billy-Harris ******* I came across this pic of Bobby Rousseau ... can't remember seeing a helmet with arrow-shaped holes ... I'm guessing this is from the 1973-74 season ... eyeballed a few sets, but no luck seeing it on a card:
Okay, I found the helmet-type of Ted Green also on Charlie Burns: Not sure if he had the same exact model as a rookie: https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/4807/cid/1169568/1958-59-Topps-43-Charlie-Burns |
