Carolina Hurricanes Goalies

by Tylergallo - 32 cards (Last updated on Mar 28, 2020)

1. 1997-98 Leaf #63 Sean Burke

I was surprised to learn that Burke, who will certainly be in more of these lists, was the only NHL goalie to wear both Hartford and Carolina's uniform. Appearing in one season for Raleigh, he suited up for 25 games in their inaugural season before being dealt to Vancouver. Went 7-11-5 with a .899 % and a 2.80 GAA.

2. 1997-98 Donruss Priority #162 Kirk McLean

McLean only appeared in 8 games in the first Carolina season before being traded to the Panthers. Went 4-2-0 with a .878 % and a 3.29 GAA.

3. 1998-99 Upper Deck #58 Trevor Kidd

*UPDATED CARD* Kidd played 72 games through two seasons for Carolina, going 28-31-9 with a great .916 % and a 2.34 GAA.

4. 1996-97 Pinnacle Be a Player #99 Pat Jablonski

Jablonski only had a 5 game stint in Carolina, finishing up his career there. Went 1-4-0 with a .878 % and a 3.01 GAA.

5. 1997-98 Donruss Canadian Ice #136 Mike Fountain

Fountain appeared in 3 games in the first Hurricanes season, going 0-3-0 with a .853 % and a 3.68 GAA.

6. 2003-04 Pacific Prism #21 Arturs Irbe

Irbe had a solid tenure in Carolina. You could see his name in a few goalie categories as the league leader each year in Carolina (some better than others) and even led the team to its first playoff appearance as the Hurricanes a year after they moved to Raleigh. A 1999 All-Star, in 6 seasons he appeared in 339 (30 playoff) games for the 'Canes, reaching the finals in 2002. Went 130-122-44 with a .906 % and a 2.49 GAA.

7. 1999-00 Pacific #88 Mark Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick only appeared in 3 games for the Hurricanes in 1999, going 0-2-0 with a .882 % and 4.48 GAA.

8. 1998-99 Be a Player #227 Eric Fichaud

Fichaud had a 9-game cup of coffee in the red and black in 1999, going 3-5-1 with a .883 % and 2.94 GAA.

9. 2001-02 Topps #295 Tyler Moss

Tyler Moss appeared in 12 games for Carolina during the 2000-01 season going 1-6-0 with a .853 % and a 3.99 GAA.

10. 2003-04 Be a Player Memorabilia #132 Kevin Weekes

Weeks bounced around quite a bit in his career, but Carolina was the one place he was consistent in. From 2002-04, he appeared in 127 (8 playoff) games for the Hurricanes, going 39-54-20 with a .912 % and 2.39 GAA.

The very first card out of the very first pack I opened as a fan of the sport was of Eddie Lack. Interestingly, and completely unplanned, Carolina was the last team I needed to see play a game. That doesn't include the Golden Knights because they didn't exist yet.

I’m a huge fan of Lack— he’s a great guy.

A quick correction on what you said about Irbe. The Canes made the finals 2002 not 2001. Other than that great list! Also, was there a team Sean Burke didn't play for?

@Tylergallo Your right, they were close. That was a great Final. Brian Boucher is also the Mike Sillinger of goalies.

David Ayres has two known cards already. You can find one in the 2019-20 Game Dated Moments, and the other one will actually be his Young Guns in SP Authentic.
