I don't understand why Boston traded Gilbert to Detroit for Vachon. Rogie was four years older and played lousy in Detroit. Gilbert never had a bad year with the Bruins. ******* The Sabres had an excellent tandem with Edwards & Sauve in goal for about five years and the rest of the team was pretty good, too ... they should have done better in the playoffs. As for Edwards' league-leading three shutouts, goalies didn't wear Michelin Man equipment back then. ******* It was crazy how the lousy Rangers team of '80-'81 knocked off the Kings (99 pts.) and Blues (107 pts.) in the playoffs. Baker allowed 33 goals in 10 games against those teams, but then he got strafed for 22 goals in 4 games against the Islanders. ... and then he vanished! He had virtually no real career after that. I don't know what happened, it's not like he was a temporary fill-in for a superstar goalie. |
