How can you make a list like this and not include Mike Piazza on it. His three stops are so famous.
@ckrakowski I forgot all about him! Thanks for the reminder.
Nice list. As expected, not exactly chock full of HOFers. But the Cubs got Aramis Ramirez in one of those deals, so that was nice. I'm a little surprised that no one did it twice. And I can't believe Edwin Jackson didn't make the list. Excellent work. v3
@Vvvergeer Thank you! I'm shocked too considering how many teams he's played for.
Suprised me when this list came up. The hockey one had actually encouaraged me to work on a list for guys not that had played for a certain number of teams but that had cards for 3+ teams in one year.
If I may I'd love to help out here. Nori Aoki is the first name that comes to mind here. Not only did he only play for one team in multiple years, but he added three new clubs to his list of teams played for in his final year - Houston, Toronto, and NYM. Jesse Biddle also appeared for each of the Braves, Mariners, and Rangers last year. Cory Gearrin appeared with SFG, Texas, and Oakland in 2018. Also very unsurprisingly Octavio Dotel appeared for each of Pittsburgh, the Dodgers, and Colorado in 2010 in looking into it. Juan Nicasio meanwhile may have accomplished a unique feat in leading the NL in pitching appearances despite playing for three teams, making a stop in Philly between stints in Pittsburgh and STL.
@DarkSide830 Thank you! I will add them. As for that list you're thinking of doing, I know Mike Piazza definetly has cards with 3 teams in 1998.
yeah, made sure to add him. He was the first one more than a few years old that i thought to add.
also I forgot to note it last time but Joay Bats also qualifies a second time, as he played for all of ATL, NYM, and PHI in 2018. 7 teams between his first and last two years, yet only two the middle 13. crazy.
| ||
Charlie Finley had the benchwarmers of his 1972 Oakland A's bouncing all over the major leagues. Guys who made three pit stops included Marty Martinez, Bill Voss, and Ollie Brown.
More wheeling and dealing by Charlie Finley: Tommy Davis (1970), Rico Carty (1973) and Deron Johnson (1974).
| ||
Jose Cruz Jr, 2005 - Diamondbacks, Red Sox, and Dodgers
Thank you theFalcon and soxbigdog! I will add them.
Three more - Johnny Blanchard (1965), George Scott (1979) and Ray Burris (1979).
Does anyone appear on three different jerseys in one year!? series 1, 2 and update?
@theFalcon Thank you! I will add them. @RonEaston Mike Piazza is the only one I can think of.
Can't believe I forget baseball's first (accidental) big money free agent, Ken Harrelson (1967). Three more - Dick Schofield (1966), Jimmie Hall (1969) and Harry "Suitcase" Simpson (1959).
Now it's getting hard ... trying to think of guys at the end of their careers ... came up with three more, Ed Brinkman (1975) , John Wyatt (1968) and a three-fer, Bob Miller (1970, 1971 and 1973).
A couple more - Juan Pizarro (1969) and Dave Revering (1982).
Jhan Mariñez played for Milwaukee, Pittsburgh, and Texas in 2017
A couple of good lefties at the end of their ropes - Bobby Shantz (1964) and Jim Roland (1972). Just found another, Ron Kline (1969). Woo hoo, one more, Bullet Bob Reynolds (1975).
| ||
Just stumbled over Jim Lemon in Baseball Reference ... a three-teamer in 1963. Another is Lenny Green (1964).
One more (at least didn't see him here): Chase d'Arnaud 2017 (Braves, Red Sox, and Padres)
Two more, Bob Meyer (1964) and Fred Talbot (1969).
Just found Ken Johnson (1969).
Two more: Miguel Dilone (1983) Dick Davis (1982)
You can adde Joe Azcue (1969), Ted Abernathy (1970) and Steve Hargan (1977). .... and Frank Fernandez (1971). ... and Bill Fischer (1958). ... and Frank Lary (1964). ... and Jack Lamabe (1967).
| ||
How about a two-fer, Dock Ellis (1977 & 1979).
If he is on here already, I apologize (didn't make it through the whole list yet), but in 1977 Dave Kingman played for the Mets, Padres, Angels and Yankees.
Billy Consolo (1962), Lou Clinton (1965) and Jim Landis (1967).
Ildemaro Vargas has played for the D-Backs, Twins, and Cubs this year Dan Vogelbach has played for the Mariners, Blue Jays, and Brewers this year Adeiny Hechavarría - 2018 - Rays, Pirates, Yankees
| ||
Hank Fischer (1966) John Herrnstein (1966)
Dave Martinez, 4 teams in 2000; Devil Rays, Cubs, Rangers, Blue Jays
Ed Kirkpatrick (1977) | ||
I am running out of players from my youth, but you can add Luis Alvarado (1974).
Tom Sturdivant (1963) Chuck Essegian (1961) Sammy Taylor (1963)
| ||
I just stumbled over Don Hahn (1975).
Doc Medich (1977) | ||
Blue Moon Odom (1975) | ||
Del Rice (1960) | ||
Bob Priddy (1969) John Buzhardt (1967)
| ||
Dave Kingman! Four teams in a year, all four divisions, and homered for all four teams! (Was probably a jerk for all four teams and that might be the reason why he is on the list to begin with.)
Bob Grim (1960) Vic Power (1964)
Rocky Bridges (1960) Hank Foiles (1960)
Rocky Bridges, what a name
Clem Labine (1960) Frank Thomas (1965)
Ramon Webster (1971) | ||
Daryl Patterson (1971)
Willie Jones - 1959 Grady Hatton - 1954, 1956
Billy Hoeft - 1959 Dave Philley - 1960 Johnny Schmitz - 1952
Anthony Banda with PIT, TOR and NYY (2022) Chi Chi Gonzalez with MIN, MIL and NYY (2022) Andrew Knapp with PIT, SEA and SFG (2022) Stuart Fairchild with SEA, SFG and CIN (2022) Michael Feliz with PIT, CIN, BOS and OAK (2021) Tyler Clippard with NYY, CHW and HOU (2017) + his 2018 Topps card back actually adressess this stat (namely him being the third to save a game for three teams in one season, with Juan Pizarro, check, and Ted Abernathy, check)
| ||
I just stumbled over a new one: Jim King (1967)
Roberto Rodriguez (1970)
Ildemario Vargas was with 3 teams again in 2021 (CHC, PIT, and ARI) Yu Chang (2022) (CLE, PIT, TB, and BOS) Yoshi Tsutsugo (2021) (TB, LAD, PIT) Kevin Padlo (2022) (SF, SEA, PIT) Yohan Ramirez (2022) (SEA, CLE, PIT)
Gerry Staley (1961) | ||
Robinson Cano (2022) ... was this for real? I stopped following baseball 15+ years ago.
Gil Coan (1955): BAL, CHW, NYG John Buzhardt (1967): CHW, BAL, HOU
| ||
Matt Lawton (2005): PIT, CHC, NYY
Hap Myers (1911): BOS twice(!) and the St Louis Browns
Jim Landis (1967): HOU, DET, BOS
Manny Salvo (1943): BSN twice(!!) and PHI
https://www.baseball-almanac.com/recbooks/rb_ten1.shtml
Salvo and Myers wouldn't count because they didn't play for 3 different teams in a season.
That's fair. I guess I interpretted this as three STOPS in a season, rather than teams. On a different note:

You could throw Lucas Giolito, Reynaldo Lopez (both CHW-LAA-CLE), Matt Moore (LAA-CLE-MIA), and Dominic Leone (NYM-LAA-SEA) on the list. They were among the guys that the Angels DFAed late last season to shed payroll. Those are the only ones that were waived during that span last year that I know but there may be a few more.
