I haven't followed hockey since the lost lockout season (2004-05), so I didn't know that three guys were actively within 100 games of the Doug Jarvis record ... I predict one of them will break it. It's too bad Steve Larmer's steak was ended by a dispute with Chicago management, or else he might have the record now. To me, Garry Unger is still the real Iron Man of the NHL ... one of my favorites, he had to score goals and drop the gloves every once in a while. Jarvis never had to carry his teams ... he was a role player. The AP story of Unger's steak ending is in the 12/24/1979 edition of the Montreal Gazette. He was uniform for the Atlanta Flames on 12/22/1979 at St. Louis, but never got off the bench. Late in the game, he stood up and coach Al MacNeil grabbed the back of his sweater and yanked him down. Unger, who had been playing injured for almost two weeks, backed his coach's decision of valuing the team's performance over the streak. BTW, the Monteal Gazette is a fantastic hockey news resource ... it's one of the newspapers at this site:
Andrew Cogliano's streak ended due to a two-game suspension from the Dept of Player Safety for an illegal hit. Without the suspension he would have reached 900+ games before finally missing a game due to injury about a year later.
Yandle's looked great so far this season, I think he'll get that record as long as he doesn't have an injury.
Such a dirty move by Yeo to end Yandle's streak like that. I'm glad they lost badly that game.
Yandle hadn't been playing well all (well, really "most", he looked decent starting off) season. The team was playing him just for the streak, which really defeats the point of the streak itself.

Glenn Hall's record's a safe one, that's for sure! |
