- Although the original checklist for this 1989 Series promoted new players in addition to updated cards and figures for those that returned from 1988, only five figures and cards were actually produced: the three Hornets, Ron Harper (the only returnee) and Larry Nance, who isn't listed on the back of the packaging. New players that were listed but never produced included Brian Shaw (Celtics), Rony Seikaly (Heat), Kevin Edwards (Heat) and Rory Sparrow (Heat), and Dennis Johnson (Celtics) is incorrectly listed as a new player but appeared in the 1988 Series.
