I was about 8 or 9 when I ripped into one of these for the first time ever, and so ensued a 35+ year obsession with them and the sport(s)....

The Team Stickers have 2 possible backs:

This was also the first set I collected as a kid (along with Topps), getting packs at the supermarket and 7-11. My first trip to a card store to fill more of the set didn't come until 1991, and I finally finished the base set in the mid-90s (and completed the stickers last summer), but the Update set was way too expensive for me at the time. I finally got my hands on one (with a graded Clemens) for a decent price in 2004 and it was an amazing feeling.

2019, June: complete this binder set without any of the team logos stickers which I will pick up soon. This set is heavy O/C with nearly every card except those well known named players where it seems their cards are somewhat better on centering of their card overall, I am happy I finished the binder set.
This was the 1st set of cards I ever bought packs from at 6 years old! I remember at the time they cost .25 cents a pack. Must have bought around 10 packs total over time and remember pulling zero good cards or important rookies. Always wanted the Don Mattingly RC from this set as a youngster even though I have never been a Yankee fan. Good memories!
I love this set, not only do I remember this being my first wax packs bought I remember I had the Mattingly RC (was in rough shape and O/C). Not only do I love the simple design and colors on the front but the backs were the best for a kid. Showed all stats in details including the minor leagues. That makes this set extra special to me. |
