Bruce Sutter's first save was against the Pittsburgh Pirates in his 5th career game. On September 8, 1977, against the Montreal Expos, Bruce entered the game in top of the 8th inning and stuck out Warren Cromartie, Andre Dawson and Tony Perez. In the 9th inning, he struck out Ellis Valentine, Gary Carter and Larry Parrish on 9 pitches. The Chicago Cubs won the game in the bottom of the 10th inning and Bruce earned the win. In the 1979 All Star Game, Bruce pitched the final two innings, giving up 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 3, and was the winning pitcher. |
