Trivia

  • Fleer's first issue since 1963.
  • All pitchers and managers have the text "Complete Major and Minor League Batting Record" on the backs of the cards. Pitchers have their pitching records and managers have a biographical synopsis.
  • Card #48 Rance Mulliniks - Picture was taken looking down the 3rd baseline at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium. Mulliniks, a Royal in this set, would go on to play 11 seasons at 3rd base for the Blue Jays.
  • Only modern era Fleer baseball cards to come with a stick of gum in the pack. While Fleer fought in court to be able to sell baseball cards, Topps had exclusive rights to package their cards with bubble gum. Beginning the next season, Fleer included stickers in their packs rather than gum.
  • There are four players who appear in this set where this is their only pro card: #49-Jeff Twitty-P, Kansas City Royals, #130-Gary Weiss-SS, Los Angeles Dodgers, #220-Sheldon Burnside-P, Cincinnati Reds, #612-Kim Allen-2B, Seattle Mariners.

First packs of cards I ever opened... These were all the closest market had on the shelves and we bought them up as fast as they stocked them.

Mike Paxton #401 should be an UER. His 1977 stats show him on the Indians, but it should say the Red Sox.3Sep 1, 2020 5:43 PM
