Year: 1984
Set: Topps (Rate)
Card: #144 Brian Harper
“ Just a base card from one of the flagship sets I grew up on. It doesn't get better than that. 1984 is one of my favorite Topps sets for sure, and even though they are a rival of my team, I always like the look of a Pirates card because the uniforms are so cool. ” -switzr1
“ I'm not a baseball guy but I will gladly take them in trade. This is the only Topps flagship not present in my collection from 1957 through 1995, which is also missing. It's also the year I was born. I know I could easily buy several of them with a trip to my local sources but I have been quietly tracking to see what sets I get sent to me in blind trades. ” -Billy Kingsley
“ As a kid, I loved this design. As an adult, I love this design. ” -beansballcardblog
“ The vertical team name thing was sort of cool when they did it on the 1974-75 basketball cards, but it comes at the expense of reduced photo size. I've never been all that into the inset photo concept. I'm not nuts about either of the typefaces. This design is sort of a jumble but okay I guess. ” -revnorb
“ Classic styling with no wasted space. The inset photo gives it a personal touch. ” -Sportzcommish
“ This dude was a catcher that played from 1979 through 1995 with 8 different teams. ” -carthage44
“ I liked this set. Two good photos...clear name, team and position...clean design...stats galore. ” -kents_stuff
“ Simple yet crappy design. ” -cjjt
“ Goodie another real neo-vintage 80s card not an archives version. Don't know much about this Mr. Harper, no relation to the Nats Bryce Harper, even though Bryce has a brother Bryan who is a pitcher in the Nationals' minor league system. ” -captkirk42
“ Love this set. and especially the pirates from this year. Those iconic confederate soldier hats were awesome. And this was the year i think i really started collecting cards. I was 6. ” -parsley24
“ I like this Topps design, plus a RC. ” -IfbBirdsCards
“ The design as it stands is very good, but after 1983's design, which was extremely similar, this just seemed like only a slight variation. I was very disappointed back then. ” -vrooomed
“ Basic Player on a Basic Card ” -kirkscards
“ I love the 1984 Topps set! Great design, plus Brian Harper was a World Series champ with the 1991 Twins. He was the catcher for Hall-of-Famer Jack Morris’ masterpiece, one of the greatest World Series pitching performances ever! ” -twinscollector34
“ I LOVE these old school Pirates uniforms!!!! ” -RoyalChief
