I know this will probably sound ridiculous, but if you are looking for packs of cards to open, just for the sake of opening and seeing what you get, I have found that I really enjoy picking up packs I have found at Dollar Tree, of all places! (Everything is $1!) They have packs of 30 random cards for just a buck, and you can usually find baseball or football, though they sometimes have had packs of multi-sports. The cards usually range anywhere from 1984 to 2016, with a pretty random assortment, and as you might expect, a high percentage between 1989 and 1992. Now, you probably aren't going to find any Frank Thomas rookie errors or 89 Griffey Jr. UD #1 cards in these, or any other "money" cards, but for a dollar, they are fun to open and see what you find. I usually buy up all they have when I frequent our local store, and I have found some cards that I've been missing in my collection. This past weekend was my first venture with the multi-sport packs. Bought two and was a tad disappointed that about 2/3 of them were early 90s drag racing cards, but the small of handful of baseball included was near mint 1984 and 1985 Topps, including a nice Steve Carlton card. There were a few 89 and 90 Pro Set football and exactly 1 basketball card - a checklist! - and no hockey. Even still, I'd honestly rather buy these for a dollar than the usual $3-5 packs at Walmart. Reminds me of why I started collecting many moons ago.
Anyway, thought I'd share my experience, and for those of you who just like opening, looking at and collecting cards, might be worth your while to check out your local Dollar Tree establishment.
Good Monday to you all - and COLLECT ON!
Jeff

I enjoy the Dollar Tree repacks. There's always a few cards I've never seen before, and a nice mix of cards from my youth and cards from years when I wasn't collecting.

Yes, Dollar Tree can be good for recent packs too. I recently picked up Panini Basketball packs from the last year or two. Also, depending on the location, they sometimes have two-packs of bubble mailers for (you guessed it) $1. I just stocked up the other week, getting about 10 packs of mailers.

I've found myself lucky many time openig these packs. There was a stretch of time where I was getting inserts from mid-90s sets that were on my wantlist. Same thing in getting ERR cards for "junk era" sets. So I've knocked things off without doing much. I also get at least 5 cards in there that I used for my FS/T that inevitably end up in some one else's hands. So for a price of a buck can't do too much wrong.

I quite often get those from my Dollar Tree. They don't always have the 30 card packs sometimes they have 15 or 20 packs if any repacks at all. Usually they have whatever sport is in season or ending (baseball, football, basketball, sometimes hockey). They almost always have some non-sport stickers or cards. Usually the rack they have them on is an absolute mess. If they have regular football packs I usually pick up some of them to help with my trading fodder for the SCF team trader group I am a part of.

The few times I've tried those, the whole pack has had a dinged corner. So disappointing.

Our Dollar Tree only has basketball cards now, 5 for a buck and a bunch of sticker packs. So disappointed because I always bought cards there, then it was like they just stopped stocking anything beyond the stickers. Finally the basketball came back, but in addition now they store boxes in front of it so its like they don't care. I thought about saying something but haven't yet.

I too like to pick up the packs at Dollar Tree for fun. For a time in the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, 99 Cents Only stores used to carry packs of 36 assorted baseball cards for 99 cents. I had gone dormant on collecting for a number of years and always smugly thought of the 99 Cents Only Store as a junk emporium. Then one day my wife came home from shopping there with a bag of the 99 cent packs! I had no idea they sold baseball cards! That got me interested in collecting again and one day I must have hit a dozen 99 Cent Only stores in the L.A. area and cleaned out their inventory! One time, I pulled a 1995 Sportsflix UC3 Cal Ripken Jr. 3-D card which, at the time, Beckett listed at $100! Now, it’s selling on eBay for, ironically, 99 cents. How times change!
