If I pull one from a pack of a player we collect, greatr, we keep it. If it's someone we don't collect, trade here or ebay it goes.
Personally, I think they should do like they did in the beginning - an insert set of about 20-30 players, about 250 cards of each player. Leave it at that. No Gold parallel xx/25, no Platinum xx/10, and certainly no Superdy-duperdy 1/1. The hobby will over-complicate itself to death if it's not careful.

As a collector who has no inclination to finish sets, but who keeps one of every card I get, I think this stuff is cool. I gave up on trying to own one of every card in about 1989, when Upper Deck "ruined" the hobby by pricing packs over $1. So getting a jersey of somebody, anybody, is always cool with me. I don't ever buy enough of any one product to have good odds of ever pulling a big hit though.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

If I get some in a large lot of cards, yes I do keep them as I collect every card. But I don't get excited over any of them (or autographs) as they are no longer a scarcity.

pulling Jsy's don't make a difference to me- anymore they're like pulling auto's.. esp sticker one's. as long as its something i need im ok with it. other than i try to pick up the 1 of's. and like it was mentioned earlier, these guys pretty much get a new uniform daily- pathetic. butttttt... where is all this memorbillia coming from on the old time legends like Ruth, jim thorpe, etc.. there can only be so many Jsy's, so many bats left over.. and why would you cut something up like that? so much history there. i just hope Topps or someone isn't grabbing something out of thier dirty laundry and cutting it up, selling it off as a game used :-(

Perfectly said. I still like certified on-card AU's, but it's beyond ridiculous now. What good is pulling an AU'd card #'d to 50 if there are three or more versions numbered even lower?
The worst thing in sports cards right now (to me) is "Event-worn Memorabilia"! What complete garbage and the entire reason I boycotted Topps years ago. It's also the reason that I barely ever buy anything that's not NASCAR now. I am so tired of getting a plain piece of jersey (or other piece of uniform) that wasn't even worn by someone who ever played a professional game! How can anyone get excited about pulling a "supposed" MEM card that has a BV of $4 now? Then you find out that Draft Pick got cut before the preseason started (NFL) or sent to D-League (NBA) or never makes it past an AA league in MLB.
I will not turn this into a rant, so I'll stop now. I think I said enough about my thoughts on this subject. OK, one more thing. I hated the "manufactured patches" at first (the letters to spell a name). Then Topps started with the MLB WS logo patches and I kind of like those. They are the only manufactured patches to EVER interest me, but I still only have a few.

I don't know what it is but I'm just not that into them, as far as sports go. I have a few, but not many. Now for non-sports, I've really liked them. The ones from The Walking Dead seasons 1 and 2 are pretty cool, season 2 even tells what episode they wore the item in. Not to mention the swatch matches the picture.
Have a few from Rittenhouse's Lost sets, really nice cards. Besides finishing some of those insert sets, not much else in that department interests me.
Walking Dead went overboard, and ruined the season 3 set with about twice as many of them. Several SSP's, some in the single digits, plus the design wasn't as good so for now I've skipped those.

Jersey cards are cool, I get one in a pack, or sometimes find an inexpensive one of a team I collect. My beef, as I have posted before, is the abbreviations used to indicate it on here. I have seen: J , J-J , JSY , MEM , MEMO
I am sure there are probably a half dozen more abbreviations used. I have given up on adding notes because of this lack of consistency. The glossary field is too expansive and redundant. Sorry, love this site, but the glossary has become a behemoth unto itself.

I'm working on the Glossary! :) JSY for Jersey cards. This J & J-J is garbage - and willbe removed as I get to it.
For cards that have "generic" memorabilia (or you know it has something but unsure exact - pants, jersey, etc.) MEM is the right way to go.
And yes, the Glossary is a behemoth, but I've trimmed it a bit (at least in baseball). Someone else(s) are doing quite a good job in football. I'm not sure who it is, but they deserve a lot of credit!
