So I have cataloged over 85,000 cards into the DB but I am wrestling with an idea of deleting my collection and starting over after a much needed organization of my collection. Just yesterday I was cleaning my desk area at home and I had a 3500 ct box that I opened to find that none of the cards have been loaded as part of my collection.
1. It looks like a PC for my player collection I started about 4 years ago. One card for every player or in the goalie situation one for each team. Problem is cards are over many sets and what to do? Do I continue this task or seperate the cards into Players or sets?
2. Have many boxes to go through like the one listed above. Many sets or singles in 5000 ct boxes that could possibly be trade bait.
3. Player PC: Keep in binders or boxes?
4. Ultimate Hockey card collection? One card for every set.
a. Put all cards in Binders by year?
b. Put all base cards in Binders by year and all others in a 3500 ct or 5000 ct box?
5. Trade bait?
a. Do I store by player, set, team etc?
UGH so now you see it maybe. I have my collection all over the place. Some in Binders, most in various size boxes without know what has been put into the DB. Some of the cards have been put into the DB but are missing scans. That part bugs me as I would love to add the scans but need to find the cards. There has been some instances where the scan is here and uploaded by me but i do not have a card listed as on hand????? I know I have the card because I haven't sold many??? So where is the card?
Rant over
So do I delete collection (How do I do that) and do a complete organization by Set, Player? I could then do the organization by either and then input into the DB by set or player. Then extract the cards into my PC's or projects? But all my cards would be in the DB and then I could do some trades. UGH
To many cards and it feels like I am so disorganized.
What to do. I think it would be nice to see this in developement multiple collection item Admin has listed on the Things to do page in the forum. What does it look like or what are the options it is going to give us or limitations on how many collections?
My name is Mark and I need help.

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

Hi Mark - my name is Dan, and I need help as well. I only have my complete sets listed, and only a fraction of what's available to trade (or sell) listed.
I, too, am awaiting the multiple collection option. I have sets in boxes, binders, boxes within boxes, some of which are available as extras. I have player collections, extras of these players, mostly HOFers. Both baseball and hockey. Have some football, I'd love to move. Same with basketball. Then I have boxes that house my Star Co collection. I'd love to bust them open and get them in a state where I could add the missing sets here, missing checklists, and scan what I have.
Did I mention I need help as well! :)
Hopefully the multiple collection thing happens soon. One can hope.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 3/4/2024). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned on (details are in my profile).

Same issues I have. Over 93,000 cards in the database, and I still look and feel so disorganized. Part of it is not having all the supplies (boxes, plastics, etc) I need. I also am not sure how to store certain things (oversized cards, coins, minis, etc), so it wears on me. I'm also trying to do team sets for baseball and organize my duplicates by sport/value/player. It's like a never-ending task. Part of it is a bit of OCD.

You 3 sound like where I was just over a year ago. I had been on this site for a while and had added in much of my collection but could never locate the cards as easily as I wish I could. So I started over, at home with my PC(s) and on this site. I began by organizing my personal collections (one of sets and the other of players). In my sets collection, I have many doubles for trade so these were separated far awaay from the sets I was keeping and lookiing to complete. In another area of my "space" is the player collection, either in top loaders or binders or boxes. I left it alone whileI sorted and cataloguedmy sets collection. I asked Admin to delete my baseball collection, both the collection and the For Sale / Trade lists. They asked if I was serious; yes I was. So in a flash, I was back to square one. I loaded my collection of sets first, every single card I had spanning from 1948 (plus a few older ones) all the way to the newest cards I had. Once that was done, then I started to load my for trade cards - these I keep by company, year, set, number as this makes it so much easier to find the cards traders ask for). I eventually got them all entered. And about that time, the trade offers started.
I then registered a second ID (sandy's singles) and did the same with my player collection, first every card of every player I collect adn then the doubles for trade. These are all sorted by player including the doubles - year, company, set, #. So again, easy to find.
I now have confidence that 99% of the time, if someone asks tosee a particular card, I can locate it within a minute. Yes it does take up a lot of space but I have almost the whole basement in the house for myself. So there are boxes and binders a bit everywhere, but sorted so that I know if they are for trade, part of my sets, or cards in my player collection.
It took a lot of time to get this far, patience and a well-thought out strategy. But it has made the hobby forme a lot less frustrating.
If reducing your collections would help, especially baseball, I can provide my address for you to send your excess to. Seriously though, being organized is the key. Think it out; keep collections separate and trade bait in a third pile. Eventually Admin will create the ability to have multiple collections; I hope we can merge two ID when it comes (I am not the only one who has created more than one ID for this reason).

many of my collection are not on here and on excel spreadsheets, but something that helps me is a note inside each box or binder that tells me that they are not in database (on ones that I have not gotten to list yet, or are in a misc unsorted box)

I hate to top you guys but...I have about 600,000 cards. Had them all listed by set, line by line on an excel spreadsheet. Have entered about 350K on the data base, then check off what i've added, on the spreadsheet. The spreadsheets also told me what box number and section of the box, where the cards were located. My old computer crashed, and I lost my spreadsheet. Now I have boxes of cards with some on the db and some not. So, once again, starting box by box to make sure everything gets listed. I feel so disorganized, but fortunately this is my hobby and I love to mess with them, so, more time with the trading cards.

I'm with all of you as well, I have around 15 5000 ct boxes that I need to organize, sort and enter. Then I'll start on the boxes of cards that I have somewhat organized that I'm not sure what to do with at the moment. When I'm entering cards I put everything into my collection until I'm finished with a box then move all of it to trade/sell.

I got tired of dealing with all the in and out that cards do, so I have restricted myself to only listing my PC in the database and not bothering to upload my base and traders. I do however scan cards that I get that have not yet been added. This means that I rarely have to remove a card from my collection since they are all PC
