Finally getting some sleep. We lost power at about 9. Winds got up to 80mph at least with higher gusts. Had to go outside and get the generator going which wasnt pleasant. Fuse box at front of the house so got soaked and hit by a branch. Then had to drain pool out some so soaked again and battered by the wind. Think its dropped down to 50mph now so worst has passed. Got alot of flooding out back but not in the house. This is my inlaws house aint got a clue yet how my house is. Its all boarded up ect and bout 4 miles up the road wont be able to cross the bridge and go check till the winds drop to about 20mph. Were all safe thou!

I hope everyone south of me is still doing well! Irma dropped to a depression several hours ago, but I know it's still bad along the GA and SC coast with the flooding. Not been bad here at all. We are under a wind advisory for possible gusts in the mid-30's, but it's just been a bit breezy today. Mostly been light rain since the mid-afternoon. As long as Hurricane Jose follows NWS predictions, we'll be fine here.

Heck we had gusts 35 to 50 mph here yesterday all bloody day!! I went to retrieve my garage sale signs at 4 oclock yesterday and all of them were either blown over or missing all together!! Was crazy windy. But then again it was clear as a bell and 25C too, so I had better shut my mouth. Sounds like the worst is over and the recovery can begin .... correct?

25C? We barely even got to 20C today (well, Monday). Seriously, it was warmer in western Canada than it was in southeast USA? That's crazy. The high temp for Tuesday is supposed to be 74F (about 23-24C) but it will still be windy and feel cooler. The wind has gotten quite gusty here the past 2 hours. No rain during that time, but it's chilly b/c of the wind. I actually wore long jeans to work tonight. That doesn't usually happen until at least late-October here. Last year, I went to a NASCAR race in VA on 10-30 wearing short jeans and a short-sleeved t-shirt and was perfectly comfortable.
As far as recovery goes, FL is good to start with it. Georgia will mostly be able to get started Tuesday morning, as well as eastern South Carolina (as long as the storm surge heads back out into the ocean). Northern Alabama/Mississippi and western Tennessee/Kentucky will still be dealing with the rain and wind. Shouldn't be anything severe to cause major problems. There are still chances north and west of Georgia for power outages from the combo of rain and wind bringing down trees. It should be pretty sporadic though. The worst of the storm is over, but it doesn't mean she won't cause more problems along the way.

It was pretty bad here. An over 55 community had a tornado go straight through the middle of them. I looked today its pretty beat up. My inlaws house and whole street is flooded bad 3ft of water at least in some places. My house half my porch out back got tore up and a big palm down out the front, half my fence is going to need resetting. See lots of fences, trees down, metal debris everwhere that you cant even see where is from. And thats just a 3 miles drive so not sure what the rest of the island, cocoa beach, kennedy space center, port canaveral is like. Half the island has no power and everyone has no water, line breakages everywhere.

That really sucks Gary. Count the blessings instead of focusing on the bad though! I saw a house (in FL) on TV Monday night where the beach got eroded so bad that the house fell DOWN to the beach that was almost completely gone. The house probably dropped 8-10 feet where there used to be a nice sandy beach sloping upwards toward the house. To me, that is worse than seeing your house blown apart by the storm. The house survived the wind and rain, but the land got taken out from under it. That house was still intact even after it fell! That is just devastating for whoever owned that house.
I really hope that you, your family, and your community can bounce back even stronger than before. I really wish I could afford to get down there to help rebuild. Just as much as I wish I could have after Harvey. I have the skills and knowledge to help rebuild (especially when you talk fences!), but I just don't have the finances or ability to leave work to get down there. On top of that, FL is STILL the only state south of the Great Lakes and east of the Mississippi River (that isn't Northeastern US) that I have never visited. As I was typing that sentence, it started pouring down rain here. Stronger that it rained when the remnants of Harvey came through last week. As an astronomy nerd, I was wondering how Canaveral and Kennedy fared. Of course the news up here won't talk about that. They'd rather talk about Disney World and Orlando resorts than the space port.

well made it.. sorry gary... dam thing came through like a freight train.. wind blew so hard it shook the walls so hard picture frames were actually rattling. lost power for almost two days, luckily had the freezer packed with ice and only had to toss some food, but luckily no structure damage in my community or flooding. lots of trees uprooted and debris all over. sucks sleeping in the humidity with no power but hell, still alive. wife ended up doing three 18hr shitfs at the police station.. and finally has a chance to get some sleep today. hope everyone else in the area is safe!!
edit: 2/3's of the state has no power. still many traffice lights out and flooding on the roadways which is even more scarier here because of the sink holes that form. so even though this has passed, still lot to worry about. hopefully some stores will be open, need to restock up on some canned foods
